Educators accrue personal leave at the rate of one day per month or 10 days per school year. The leave days are advanced for the use during the school year. The minimum charge for leave is one-half day (four hours) Absence from duty of less than one-half day may be excused for legitimate reasons, acceptable to the administration, without being charged to leave. It is your responsibility to be acquainted with and abide by these regulations. Absence for any reason except illness or injury must be approved IN ADVANCE by the administration. A doctor’s excuse may be requested at any time and is required for absences of three or more consecutive workdays. Further guidance relating to absence and leave can be found in DS Regulation, 5630.4 (6 Nov 87).
Standard Form 71 must be completed and submitted to the office for all absences. When someone has called in sick, the SF 71 must be submitted upon returning to duty. It is the staff member’s responsibility to submit a SF 71. Advance notice of an absence facilitates arrangements for substitute teachers. This is not always an easy task for our office staff. When doctor’s appointments or workshops or other training is known in advance, staff should submit the form near the date of notification for any of these events.
All leave forms must be submitted electronically to the employee’s supervisor and cc the secretary. When Teachers are completing Form SF-71, “Request for Leave,” check that you have done the following:

Only the school office will schedule substitutes. When you know you will be absent, submit a leave form to the office as far in advance as possible. You’ll receive a copy of the approved leave form. Once the leave form is approved, the office will secure a substitute. If the absence is a sudden illness or emergency, notify administration as soon as possible, but not later than your report time the day of your absence. You’ll need to submit the leave form within 24 hours of your return to work. When you are absent a substitute may be required for you. In such cases teachers and paraprofessionals are to maintain substitute folder and emergency lesson plans in the main office.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DISTRICT PD DAYS (CCRS training, CSI Days, etc.) are considered mission-essential trainings. Leave will not be granted without proper medical documentation, and no APL will be approved.
