TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES FOR DISCIPLINE
Referral Procedures for Student Misconduct:
Phase I: This phase includes routine teacher actions such as detention at lunch or after school, notes to parents, E-mail contact, calls to parents, parent conferences, etc. Teachers should keep a record of all actions taken regarding student discipline. This is the most critical phase of student discipline.
Phase II: Referrals to administration are to be made using the school specific discipline referral form. Other formats will be returned to the teacher. Please make sure that all information provided on the referral form is complete, clear, and specific.
NO STUDENT SHOULD BE REFERRED TO THE ADMINISTRATION UNLESS SPECIFIC CONSEQUENCES HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED AND PARENT CONTACT TO INCLUDE A CONFERENCE HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. (With the exception of serious incidents, i.e. fight, abusive actions, false fire alarm, smoking, under influence of drugs or alcohol, truancy, etc.,)
SERIOUS INCIDENTS ARE TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO AN ADMINISTRATOR.
Referral to administration means all of your interventions have failed to produce results. Please do not send students out of class to the office for discipline referrals with the exception of serious incidents. Referrals will be processed as soon as feasible.
Administrative interventions and actions include counseling, referral to appropriate personnel or agency, parent conferences, after school detention, in-house suspension, out-of-school suspension with community service, referral to the command, referral to the Discipline Committee, and recommendation for expulsion.
Please be reminded that students assigned a suspension must be given full rights to make-up work as per DoDEA policy 2051.1.
Referrals such as a student not bringing required materials to class or failing to complete homework are not considered discipline problems but are rather motivational or organizational difficulties. This is a classroom teaching problem that must be addressed by the teacher, students, counselor, and parent as it relates to the student’s performance and achievement.
This policy reflects the combined efforts by school and community representatives to standardize consequences for misbehavior and to assure increased parental involvement in these consequences.
Minor Offenses
Each teacher will establish classroom rules and procedures. When a student continues to break a classroom rule, and the teacher has followed all of the steps in their rules and procedures, the student will be referred to the administration for appropriate action.
All consequences will be determined on a case-by-case basis
Major Offenses
All violators of major offenses will be subject to school disciplinary action as well as being reported to the Base Inspector’s Office, Military Police (when warranted), and sponsors’ commanders.
Major offenses include but are not limited to the following:
