EARLIEST DEPARTURE DATE FOR CREDIT
Each school year, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) establishes acceleration periods which are “the earliest departure dates for credit.” The date coincides with 20 school days prior to the end of the first semester and the end of the second semester. THIS DATE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. School personnel and administrators do not have the authority to waive this date. The acceleration date for credit does not apply to students who leave on family vacations prior to the last day of school. The expectation for all students is that they attend school up to the last day. The acceleration date is established in order to justify the granting of credit to students who PCS on or after this date.
ACCELERATED WITHDRAWAL (for High School Credit-PCS orders required)
PCS/Withdrawal on or after the Early Departure Date
DoDEA Pacific Guidance for ACCELERATED WITHDRAWAL
The provision for permitting the early withdrawal of students with full Carnegie credit was based on careful consideration of the unique circumstances found in the DoDEA system. Students are entitled to request acceleration work assignments, if the family is REQUIRED TO MOVE during any part of the period of 20 school days prior to the end of the semester or school year. However, this provision is NOT extended for the convenience of family travel, visits, or other discretionary reasons.
If the student is taking a class for high school credit (such as higher level math or foreign language) that class must be accelerated. A request for the acceleration work must be made at least one month prior to the date of withdrawal. This is necessary so that assignments may be prepared by the teachers and completed by the student in an accelerated program. ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED to the satisfaction of each teacher involved. It is the individual student’s responsibility to meet this requirement. Students who do not complete requirements can be transferred with “grade-to-date” rather than a final grade to a receiving school for completion of the courses and receipt of credit if applicable.
