Adolescence

Puberty:

During this process of developing from a child into an adult, there is an increase in weight and height, body composition, and sexual development. 

Despite the growth, an increase of energy (from food) may not be required - this will depend on the adolescent's body weight. 

Adolescents should continue to eat healthily - their diet should contain nutrients such as vitamin D and calcium, for bone development. 

Boys:

Need more protein as they develop more muscle tissue. 

Need more calcium to develop bones, as they are usually taller and bigger

Girls

Need more iron to compensate for blood loss during menstruation
