A* - EXPLAIN HOW THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PRACTITIONER PROMOTES A HEALTHY DIET
Examples of health and social care practitioner roles include:
- Nurse/ school nurse
- Dietician
- Speech and language therapist
- Care worker
- Health visitor
- Public Health Nutritionist
- Health improvement nutritionistÂ
A health and social care practitioner can promote a healthy diet, for example:
Education
Practitioners might educate others about healthy diets - for example, a school nurse might give some education to her students where she talks about a healthy diet and why it is good.
Informed choices
This means that you give people a CHOICE about what they eat, however you have given them enough INFORMATION to allow them to make a decision.
Empowerment
Through talking to a service user, a practitioner can identify what support they might need - they could set up mini goals to help the individual
Modelling
Practitioners can often act as role models to their service users - for example, if you saw Nazmin eating healthy everyday, that might motivate you to also adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Access and availability
Think about access to information - is it available for everyone? (think about other languages, learning disabilities, Braille, videos).
Think about access to healthier options - can everyone afford it? how do we address that? (vouchers, or free fruit and veg)
Nutritional planning
Some practitioners may be able to sit down with service users and provide a diet plan to better support them.
Also think about demographic data - information from surveys such as the Census is used to build a picture of a population, and this enables local authorities to plan services, such as health and social care services/ initiatives
