A*2 - DESCRIBE FUNCTIONS OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SERVICES. 

This task relates to different types of services. statutory, voluntary and private, which you outlined in D2. The question is asking what is the role of these services? What do they provide?

Different individuals with varying needs will need support for different lengths. For example, someone with dementia may need long term support in a care home so that their daily needs are met. 

Residential settings

Available for adults and children because they are unable to live in their own homes or with their families. 

Provide both nursing and personal care to support individuals be independent. 

Respite services

Provides carers to have a break from their duties while the person they look after is cared by someone else. 

Available at home or within the community.

Rehabilitation services

The process of providing specialist support to those who have lost or had their physical, mental thinking and learning abilities lost or impaired. There are three types of rehabilitation services:

Community services

Provided for people who reside within the local area and are specialist to meet the service users specialist needs. 

May also include teams of professionals with expertise for example psychologists who provide information, advice and support.

Specialist services

Includes specific provision made available to meet needs of the individual, these include:

Funding

HSC services work with a range of Government departments, such as Department of Health and Social Care - provide the fund to provide care, support and treatment that an individual needs.

Department of Health - sets the budget for HSC services

Local authorities - responsible for planning, buying, monitoring care and support services (referred to as commissioning)

CCGs (Clinical Commissioning Groups) - responsible for planning and buying HSC services for the communities they are responsible for - are independent, statutory and NHS led - work closely with NHS England and local authorities. Made up of doctors, nurses and other professionals. Can buy services form any providers that can meet their budget, whether they are NHS, voluntary or private sector providers.
