Making someone feel valued when they access any kind of health and social care can promote a positive difference to individuals enabling them to live the life they want. 

What makes a Service User feel valued?

Thinking about the work you have completed in EDR (D3), regarding inclusive practice. You can use some of that information you have learnt, to help make service users feel valued.

Advocate an independent person who represents the views, needs and interests of individuals who are unable or unwilling to do so, and supports them to express their views.

Autism spectrum condition is a lifelong condition that affects how a person perceives the world and interacts with others, i.e. they may have difficulties communicating, interacting and socialising with others.

British Sign Language (BSL) is the sign language used in the UK by individuals who have a hearing impairment. It uses a combination of hand gestures, facial expressions and body language. It is a different language to English with its own grammar and sentence construction.

Dementia is a disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury. Examples of symptoms include memory loss

 and/or difficulties with thinking, problem- solving or language.


Interpreters are professionals who convert spoken/oral or sign language communication from one language to another such as English to British Sign Language (BSL). Interpreters must be good listeners and be able to process and memorise words and gestures while individuals are communicating.

In your team, you need to develop a profile of an individual with care and support needs. In their profile include details about their likes, dislikes, abilities, needs and preferences.

Then, summarise the health and social care values that are essential for working with this individual.
