D3 - 1.3 - DESCRIBE HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

- Examples must be used to support your work

What does holistic mean?

Although we have looked at social, cognitive, emotional and physical development separately. Holistic approach involves acknowledging the WHOLE person rather than just one aspect of them.  To meet ones needs, we must look at them HOLISTICALLY.

Means the 4 areas of development  which we have covered DEPEND on - and affect each other. For example, someone with severe depression (emotional development) will show the influence of this in their social, cognitive and physical development.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Psychologist Abraham Maslow presented the hierarchy of needs which allows us to understand the hierarchy of needs. You all required to research and complete the template in front of you outlining the 5 stages and examples of each one.

Extension activity - from the 5 stages can you identify, which ones are basic needs, psychological needs and self-fulfillment needs? Can you identify any advantages and disadvantages?
