C1 - OUTLINE THE NATURE VERSUS NURTURE DEBATE IN RELATION TO HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Nature vs Nurture

OR

Genetics vs Environment

The way we develop and behave can be influenced by two key factors - Nature and Nurture.

We are all unique and different in our ways, whether this be skin colour, height, hair type, personality and even determination.

KEY TERMS

Genetic inheritance - basic priciple of genetics. Explains how characteristics are passed from one generation to another = DNA

Nature - genetic, inherited characteristics and biological influences that relate to human development and behaviour.

Nurture - environmental influences relating to human behaviour and development.

NATURE (DNA/ GENETIC INHERITANCE)

Refers to DNA which we inherit from our parents for example, skin, hair, eye colour and facial features.

On some occasions, we can also inherit genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis, breast cancer.
