D3 1.3- DESCRIBE HOW THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PRACTITIONER CONTRIBUTES TO INCLUSIVE PRACTICE.

Inclusive Practice

Inclusive practice involves "practitioners working in various ways which responds to the individuals unique needs and preferences" (Peteiro, Rasheed and Saunder, 2019).

This means supporting an individual to obtain a meaningful role within the society so that they can develop a sense of well-being. Promoting inclusive practice allows practitioners to provide quality care and support to the service users which is unique, safe and effective to them.

Promote rights

Health and social care practitioners have a duty of care to ensure the rights of individuals, accessing services, are upheld. Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion is essential at all times.

Table 1.3 in text book provides examples of how to promote the rights of individuals.

Value diversity

Health and social care practitioner's recognise how different each person is and are respectful of these differences. This will help an individual accessing a service to feel valued, which will help with their overall well-being. Asking someone how they would like to be treated as opposed to telling them how they will be treated, is essential.

Person-centred practice

Health and social care practitioner's place the individual at the CENTRE of  the care given. Best interests of the indvidual are practiced and they have control of their own care.

Access to Services

Health and social care practitioners can share their  knowledge of services available, locally and nationally.  Using their experience to give the best service care for individuals.

For example, a service user may be having trouble walking, due to a recent fall. Knowledge of a local physiotherapist or swimming group used specifically for rehabilitation, would benefit the service user.

Sharing this information, can help the individual to make an informed choice about suitable options, which in turn empowers them.

Meeting individual needs and preferences helps to be inclusive.

Information and Advice

Get to know the individual and be inclusive.

Think about:

Manage Risk

Health and Social practitioners need to ensure that risks an individual takes, are positive.

For example, if an individual is prone to falling over, this would need managing with the use of a walking aid. Allowing the individual to remain independent is important. Staying safe could mean taking all risks away - which would take control away from the individual which is detrimental to their well being.

Managing risks to remain inclusive is crucial for the individual.

Helping individuals to be as independent as possible.

Helping individuals to be in control as much as possible.
