History
The Promethean was constructed in 1928 modeled on the newly opened Roosevelt Hotel in NYC. Originally named the Dolphin, it was renamed in 1931 when it was acquired by a cabal called the Bringers of the Divine Fire. An Obrimos and Silver Ladder dominated cabal they took advantage of the Hallow atop the building. In 1958, they left the hotel (and the Demense installed in the early 50s) to the local caucus.
The caucus used it as convocation center until the Mage War. In that period the mundane aspect of the hotel was neglected, leading to decay and loss of revenue. The magical aspect however was enhanced including potent wardings, ghostly guardians and an increase in the Demense.
After the Mage War, the hotel's fortunes dimmed under the guidance of the sleepwalker caretakers and it was almost sold and demolished. Decima stepped in and refinanced the hotel, installing her Priamid brood in place of the greedier and less apt employees. Despite the friction, business flourished and the hotel is now a private secret of the rich and influential who visit Chicago.
Lay of the Land
The hotel is a soaring 22 story building lying the in shadows of giants. Even so it give the appearance of soaring heights with its Art Deco style. The hotel has an ornate style focused on the reaching for the sky. Inside the building is done in red carpeting and gold colored paint. It favors sculptures and vases rather than paintings for the periodic art on the walls.
Much of the art evokes the Greco-Roman style. The staff seem abnormally knowledgeable, often appearing just as you need something. They also have a familial look to them with the same olive skin and curly black hair.
The secret areas can be accessed via a key to the top most floors. The 4 top floors are generally reserved for the Silver Ladder. The 19th and 20th consists of meeting rooms and spare suites for visitors (the lower levels also often hold visiting mages). The 21st and 22nd are off limits except to those directly tied to the order. Here a 4 dot Hallow and a Demense tied to Aether, Stygia, and Arcadia can be found.
Twilight holds a number of ghosts (born from suicide, nearby violence, and simple affection for the building). These have been bound and set as guardians for the Order. Most are fairly weak but a few are quite potent.
The Guantlet here is quite thick, enhanced by efforts by local mages both past and present. The spirits here get by on a weak diet of opulence and power. The strong ones feed from the resonance of prophecy, death, and illumination that flows from the top of the building. The building itself has a spirit, one that is quite strong.
