Background: Moswen Siti was born in 87 BC during the reign of Ptolemy IX. Growing up as part of the ruling class during the twilight of the Egyptian Empire, her life was tumultuous. Pharaohs rose and fell in intrigues or through foreign intervention by the Romans. She was sent by her family to the (hopefully) safe task of becoming a priestess. There she learned the ways of the old gods and the secrets of spirit magics. Though merely a mortal who knew some magics of the Fallen World, she was visited by one of the Gods one night, Horus. He warned of decline and fall of Egyptian and the destruction of its culture. Horus also carried a message that she would be needed in the future, a message sent by the Circle of Four. To this end he revealed to her the secret formula to become one of the Purified. After an elaborate ritual , committed suicide and was mummified by spirits of the desert. 7 days later, after a harrowing journey to the Underworld, she was judged worthy and reawakened, whole and immortal.
For centuries she worked behind the scenes, serving the old gods, dealing out justice and looking out her people. But time eroded away the faith in the old gods. Christianity swept away the old ways. Woman lost their status as equals. The spirits retreated to the wilds. Egypt was lost. After 400 years of life, her earthly ties were lost. Her parents, siblings and their children and grandchildren were not just dead but forgotten. Her gods gone, driven into the deepest parts of Shadow or devoured by the spiritual reflections of new gods. She went on a pilgrimage. First to Greece, then to Rome, then the northern countries. Everywhere the old ways were fading. She almost gave up hope. Then a message came in the form of a strange eagle. White headed, it spoke in the Spirit Tongue to her. It promised a new beginning if she came to the lands of the West. It also warned of dark things to come and the promise of a child. The idea of a new beginning lifted her from her depression and she put her time to studying the portents told to her.
She cautiously sought out mages, became engaged in their struggles and learned of Algol and the Fall. She learned to combat demons and hide from the Church. She learned the way of shapeshifters, the Thorn, the Sin Eaters and the Created. She delved for centuries into the Underworld to find a way to cross the sea. In 1524 she stole aboard a Spanish ship and reached the farther shore. She was delighted to find the pagan ways strong in this land, even as she saw how it was quickly vanishing. She spoke to the spirits and followed a trail of demons and dark deeds to the fallen ruins of the Mississippian civilization.
There she found the Dark Man. The two ancients struggled but found each other evenly matched. She had the upper hand in magic but he wielded demons and dark powers she could not counter. Again and again they fought and he would win but barely. Seeing that she could not beat him, she worked to thwart his plans. Occasionally a vision from the Circle would aid her.
Thus she was warned of the Great Fire Spirit. She was there when it was released, her allies gathered to stop it. Rain spirits weakened it while other tore at its corpus. Using potent banishment rituals they sent it back to Hell. The cost was great. Many died. Others were maimed for life or had their minds and souls scarred. Her alliances were shattered by the act. But so was the Dark Man's plan. She retreated from the world, awaiting the next move.
She also knew from her warning that he promised child would arrive soon in a mere 113 years. As the time drew close she met a potent willworker, Midas, who shared her aims for keeping the spirit world in balance. They became close and conceived an impossible child, Adele. They both knew they could not keep the child. To Midas she was a weakness, to the White Lady, she was something the Dark Man could take. They placed her with unsuspecting mortals and watched her through proxies.
