Background: Miguel was quiet as a child, with large inquisitive eyes. As soon as he could crawl he quickly found his way into all sorts of places in the rundown tenement building where his parents and two sisters lived. And once he could talk his questions were incessant. Though his his mother sheltered him, he quickly learned not to ask such questions of his father. The small furtive man worked late hour and came home stinking of alcohol. Sometimes he would hit his mother. Sometimes he would come after Miguel. As he grew, he often wondered if these people were his real family.
Then one Halloween the change came. After trick or treating he got separated from his sisters and was chased by some older kids looking to have fun egging him. As he scrambled to get away, the stitch in his side became agony and then horror as his body twisted into something not quite cat and not quite cougar. He's not quite sure if he hurt those kids or not but he doesn't think anyone was killed. Sometimes it haunts his dreams though.
He was eventually noticed by an older shapeshifter, another werecat named Diana Coal. She inducted him into the society of the Folk, or the Klinkerash, in Chicago. They worked in the shadows of the city, making deals with potent spirits for magical lore and using it to their individual benefit. Diana also was taught him about the spirit called Painted City, a vandalism spirit who had gifted the Klinkerash with many potent secrets over the last 50 years.
Miguel cut his ties with his family and hasn't returned in the last two years. Sometimes he looks in on them. Once he ambushed his father at night and tried to put some fear into him, to get him to stop hitting his mother. He feels bad about that for some reason.
Despite Diana's warnings he ultimately sought out the Painted City in Gary. The lure of new secrets was too strong and he had learned how far he still had to go. The spirit invited him into his court with open arms of decaying plaster and broken glass. The garishly painted creature explained to him how it could give him what he wanted. Magical secrets to get rich, to have power over fate, and to gain power over the city. They just had to break it.
He found some willing friends and turned them into a gang devoted to the spirit's service. Until recently they vandalized and tore down the city parts of the city with petty vandalism, arson, and graffiti. In return they were protected. Spirits ensure that the cops fail to punish them and the members parents were occupied. Miguel in turn was taught the secrets he wanted.
He eventually found other avenues to power starting in the form of a relationship with some young willworkers known as the Ebon Cross. A while back, he had a potent Greed spirit called Toll Toad muscling in on his locus but thanks to the Ebon Cross, it was destroyed. Later he returned the favor by helping them deal with rat hosts. In particular he became infatuated with a young mage called Adele. She's unwittingly managed to get him to work against the Painted City, getting him to help her spread charity and undo damage to the city's spiritual landscape. He began to question if the spirit's work is safe for his friends. His dealing with that spirit came at a high price as one of his gang, Vicks, fell prey to the spirit's enemies, the Pattern Spiders. With the Ebon Cross's help he was able to save another friend, Bill Meyer, however.
He has a history with the werewolves of the city, one which makes him hesitant to work with them. It was no surprise really when they jumped him and dragged him to Gary against his will. What was a surprise was when he agreed to help them defeat the Painted City. Even more was when with the help of a local mage Plotimus, they succeeded.
With this came a turning point in his life. He became more responsible and as an outgrowth of this he and Adele became a couple. But it didn't last. Now things are even more complicated between them as Valkyrie's Vice seduced him for a one night stand. Still Miguel was able to put that past them and worked to save the city. Now he heals wounds.
