This group formed a secret society to contain an entity inhabiting the structure of the university. Now they serve as a cryptology of sorts for the Mysterium.
Dr. Michael Cathcart, Anthropology
Quote: “Do your research. Trust me, it’s not wise to skimp.”
Background: Michael Cathcart was once a dedicated teacher and researcher. Strangely depressed, he is now a contender for the university presidency, but campaigns half-heartedly.
Description: Cathcart is a morose man in his early 60s. In his youth, he dressed comfortably, often wearing jeans and loose-fitting shirts to class. In recent years, he’s taken to wearing a coat and tie, but never quite looks comfortable in them. He looks pained at all times, usually speaks in hushed tones (except when teaching) and glances around corners before turning them.
Dr. Jerry Detwiler, Psychology
Quote: “We’ve almost got this thing figured out. I’m sure of it.”
Background: Jerry Detwiler is, and always has been, arrogant and self-assured. A professor of psychology, his research into schizophrenia and its treatment promised to herald a new era of psychiatric medicine. Or so he believed, until further research demonstrated that his methods were flawed and required much more testing, all of which Detwiler brushed off bitterly (and still does). He remains a dogged pragmatist and atheist.
Description: Detwiler is in his late 40s. He is tall and lean, keeps his hair neatly groomed and wears crisp suits to class. He insists on decorum from students and has been known to kick pupils out for wearing hats or chewing gum. He fidgets constantly.
Dr. Virginia Miller, Art History
Quote: “Is that odd? What level of expansion do you think the architects of the campus expected?”
Background: Once an excited teacher, her teaching has become erratic and if she didn't have tenure she would likely already be fired.
Description: An older woman in some mismatched business dress, her thick pink glasses are bit skewed and she mumbles to herself. Overall she is a bit plain and mousy with short dark hair.
Dr. Anshu Hanasoge, Civil Engineering
Quote: “Architecture has a sacred dimension. From the Taj Mahal to the Pyramids of Giza, architecture has the power to fascinate and inspire, even define the world one lives in.”
Background: A tenured professor in the engineering department.
Description: An older Indian man who always dresses nicely and is almost religious about his work. He always carries a sketch pad and a small group of blue prints. He will happily chat with anyone who he encounters about his work.
Dr. Brian Bauer, Anthropology
Quote: “What is it? Don't you see I'm busy?”
Background: Brian is Cathcart's best friend and another tenured professor.
Description: A frazzled man with unruly blond hair and an athletic build. He always carries a tote bag of essentials.
Professor Angela Rutledge, Biology
Quote: “The study of biology is much more than the study of existing organisms, it is the study of change and the processes that propagate life.”
Background: Might have been Clare's faculty adviser and the teacher of her Cell Bio class, but for was on Sabbatical when the crucial decision times came. Rutledge is a sharp woman in her early 40s who has been on staff at the University for the past 10 years. She lectures everyone of her class sessions, but labs are conducted by her T.A.s.
Description: A blond haired woman often dressed in a lab coat and with a habit of leaving a half dozen pens in her pockets. She often takes the tone of a lecturer when explaining something.
Dr. Walter Bennet, Physics
Quote: “There is always a logical explanation”
Background: A life long rationalist, Bennet's focus is experimental high energy physics.
Description: An older man with curly gray hair and tweed jacket. He favors bowler hats and has a large collection at his home.
