One of the biggest shortcomings in the Church today is the lack of skill and capacity for reading the Bible. The Bible when illuminated by the Holy Spirit becomes the Word of God.
We must be like the BereansActs 17:10-11 (NKJV)
10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
John 1:1-3 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Jesus is the Word of God and as soon as we have passed the initial infant stages of our walk with the Lord it is close to impossible to love Jesus, without loving the Scriptures. We endeavour not to preach and teach as much as we endeavour to ignite a passion and a set of skills to examine the Word of God like the Bereans did.
This is paramount in all we do. We are not as interested in preaching correct doctrine as we are in training Christians to mature in their understanding and their handling of the Scriptures from which comes to us THE WORD.
Jeremiah 31:31-34 (NKJV)
I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
John 16:12-15 (NKJV)
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
2 Timothy 3:13-16 (NKJV)
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
