Well..?
If the song has many words without saying anything, like
"I praise you
I praise You
I praise you"
Or
"You are wonderful
"You are wonderful
"You are wonderful "
Then it is not like the scripture at all, and we do know scripture was dictated by the Holy Spirit, right?
Scripture tells us lots in very few words:
Here is one of the few songs songs actually recorded in the New Testament as an example
9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 5:9-10
WOW what a mouthful?!
another one
3 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
“Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!
4 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested.”
complex argument, thesis and anti-theses, and consequences that confuse us..
5 After these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened.
6 And out of the temple came the seven angels having the seven plagues, clothed in pure bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands.
7 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever.
8 The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.
Revelation 15:3-8
As a funny aside, most of the songs recorded in the New Testament are in the last book "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" and most Christians think that book is for divination of the future or part of the Old Testament .:)
How does the song compare in terms of telling us something concrete and profound about the nature, character and ways of God?
David's Psalm are not repetitive mushiness either, they are very decisive and theologically challenging
1 A Psalm of David.
The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
2 The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
3 Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power;
In the beauties of holiness,
from the womb of the morning,
You have the dew of Your youth.
4 The Lord has sworn And will not relent,
“You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at Your right hand;
He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.
6 He shall judge among the nations,
He shall fill the places with dead bodies,
He shall execute the heads of many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside;
therefore He shall lift up the head.
Psalm 110
or is the song just sentimental mush with no real story?
