Pastors are in the Bible and obviously a good and necessary thing.
However, the model of one pastor, who is a professional, and then holds more power or influence that the rest of the elders and the rest of the FiveFold is not in the Bible. Pastors can be elders are by default part of the FiveFold. They are however never appointed as sole ruler or authority figures in any churches in the New Testament.
This model of a professional pastor is called " the clergy system" and is arguably the biggest cancer in the church today.
The word pastortute comes from three words:
1. Prostitute “one who gives love and intimate service for cash” and
2. Substitute, “one who substitutes Christ, the Word or the Holy Spirit” in the lives of others. A Christian who singularly holds spiritual authority or dominion over Christians.
3. Pastor, a shepherd who mothers (nurtures & controls) the sheep
Fathering is “begetting, equipping and releasing".
Mothering is “nurture and control”
Both are good when operating in context and balanced by one another but damaging when operating alone or out of order. The father has authority over the mother and greater long term usefulness. You can father a 40 year old, but mothering a 40 year old is perversion unless the person has downs syndrome.
There is spiritual authority in the New Testament but it never held by one person as we see with the typical pastortute.
