37. Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38. “This is the first and great commandment.39. “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’40. “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:37-40
If you don’t like yourself you cannot love yourself or your children. If you don’t like your children then they won’t like themselves and so the curse will keep running down the line just like it came to you.
25. “For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
Mark 4:25
It’s quite obvious that if your father didn’t like himself, he also didn’t like you, or at least would struggle to do so. Such a parent who does not love himself might love certain aspects of some of his children but would in the end minister much rejection to some or all of his children.
You are a copy of him and he cannot love you unless he loves himself. Conversely if you parents failed in his love for you it is not really a reflection on you but on him. He off course got the rejection from his father.
As much as people want to “love” someone they don’t “like” reality is if you don’t like yourself you also will not love yourself. This needs to get fixed.
In order to break the cycle you need to be saved. Salvation is a spiritual experience and not primarily soulish, psychological or emotional. Once established in the Spirit you will be healthy and whole and able to engage your soul and fix it. If you confuse your emotional baggage with the Spirit, you will probably fail in the end.
Spiritual is not “super spiritual” which is just immature and an act of denial.
Being and walking in the Spirit is the single most important thing you can ever do.
14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.15. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”16. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,17. and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:14-17
