~New Characters Introduced~
Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn
Original Date of Post: 05/04/2008
Narrator: Losing a loved one is never an easy thing to go through, especially when you are young. It’s hard people! And it’s going to take more than a couple of Band-Aids to heal! Eh, I’ll get off of my soapbox now.
Misty: You’re going to be gone for a week?
Sakura: Yes, I’m going to be at another school next week.
Ash: You mean you’re going to another school in another country and we’re getting another person from another country come here?
Sakura: That’s an exchange Ash and no that’s not what’s happening. I’m going to visit Sandgem University for a week.
Marisa: How were you able to do that?
Sakura: It’s all thanks to Professor Rowan! Every year, Sandgem University gets a bunch of high school seniors to come for a week to check out the campus and meet with the admissions board. And since Professor Rowan used to be a teacher there, he was able to get me in. I don’t know what I would have done without his help!
Marcus: Sandgem is a very tough school to get in.
Sakura: Yeah!
Dawn: I’ll say. Sandgem is one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools in the country. I’m not surprised that Professor Rowan used to teach there. I have him for Freshmen English and he’s one tough cookie! Usually I’m good in that subject, but because of him, I’m starting to doubt myself.
Sakura: I will admit that his curriculum is rather challenging, but if you put the time and effort into your assignments, you’ll get a decent grade.
Dawn: I still say he’s tough!
Brock: So when do you leave for Sandgem?
Sakura: I leave at the end of the week and I’ll return the following week. I just hope you all don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.
Ash: Oh come on, I think we’re pretty capable to watch over this place while you’re gone.
Marcus: Most of us are involved in Romeo and Juliet so it should be pretty quiet around here. Hey wait a second, you are coming to our play right?
Marisa: Marcus, the play is in a couple of weeks! Sakura will be back in plenty of time to see Romeo and Juliet.
Sakura: Right. Well, I have to meet with Professor Rowan for a little bit to talk a little bit about the trip. I’ll see you guys later. (She leaves)
Dawn: I’ve never noticed those people here before.
Brock: Who? Oh, them!
Marisa: The Emos!
Dawn: The Emos?
Marcus: That’s what we call them! They don’t go by their birth names, so we just refer to them by their nicknames. Mars, Jupiter, and that one over there is called Saturn. If you know what’s good for you, stay away from Saturn. I think he’s a bit bipolar!
Dawn: What’s wrong with them?
Marcus: I think the better question is what isn't wrong with them?
Misty: We don’t bother them and so far they don’t bother us.
Ash: Wait a sec! Isn’t that Paul with him?
Marisa: So much for the whole if we don’t bother them, they won’t bother us theory!
Misty: You mean your freshman?
Dawn: It certainly looks like him.
Ash: What’s he doing with those weirdos?
Marcus: Oh Ash give it up! Your freshman is a complete lost cause if he’s hanging around those guys. (Ash gets up and walks away) Now where is he going?
Ash: Hey Paul! (Paul turns around)
Paul: What do you want?
Ash: Well, we don’t really get a chance to talk that often. How about we go outside where we can discuss things privately?
Saturn: You miss your gay-lover?
Ash: What’d you say?
Mars: Do you know this preppy, Paul?
Paul: Not personally!
Ash: Come on, you don’t need to be influenced by this group!
Paul: Would you get away from me! (Dawn walks up)
Dawn: Misty was right! You were going to do something stupid! What the hell are you doing picking a fight with them?
Ash: Stay out of this Dawn.
Paul: Just go back to your table of preps, posers, and wannabes.
Dawn: HEY PUNK! Don’t you dare insult me like that again! (Dawn glares at Paul)
Paul: So I guess I should just insult you behind your back like I normally do. (Dawn growls) I don’t have time for this crap! (Paul and the others leave)
Dawn: What a jerk! (In Professor Rowan’s classroom)
Rowan: I take it you are excited about the trip.
Sakura: Of course! It’s like you said, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to do this trip.
Rowan: Yes. Every year, the school only has a select few come to the campus for one week and only a slim number from that group are a shoe-in for the school itself. I thought I’ve seen everything when Winona got to go two years ago and again with Tucker last year, but you never fail to surprise me. (Sakura blushes)
Sakura: You really mean it? I was shocked to hear about doing the trip since that school is very selective. I was sure that I wasn’t going to get chosen.
Rowan: Sakura, don’t doubt yourself for a second. I’ll let you in on this, Principal Oak and I have been talking about it and there’s no doubt in our mind that you’ll be class valedictorian. (Sakura gasps) That’s right!
Sakura: Oh my God, that’s like a dream come true!
Rowan: Well you’ve earned it Sakura. Ever since I met you as a freshman, you’ve done nothing but excel in everything you’ve done. I’m very proud of you.
Sakura: Thanks Professor Rowan. I’m glad that you’re doing all of this for me even though it’s most likely Sandgem will turn me down.
Rowan: Oh Sakura, don’t go doubting yourself. Now since I’m a very generous contributor to the school years after I resigned, my word still means a lot to the school. I will gladly write another letter of recommendation for you.
Sakura: You would really do that for me?
Rowan: Absolutely my dear! I was happy to help your older sisters with letters of recommendation and it’ll be a pleasure to write one for you.
Sakura: You’re the greatest! (She hugs him)
Rowan: You’re welcome Sakura. Just remember this one thing my dear. Don’t ever doubt yourself. If you doubt, you might never know what will happen. And not knowing what will happen, means you’ll miss out on something important.
Sakura: You’re right. I’m going to that University come fall of next year!
Rowan: That a girl! (Later that week at the airport)
Sakura: You guys act like I’m going away forever. I’ll only be gone for one week!
Misty: We just want to see you off!
Marisa: I hear it’s beautiful there, so be sure to take plenty of pictures when you don’t have your head in a book.
Brock: And take these pictures!
Sakura: Pictures of yourself? Brock, I think I’ll remember what you look like.
Brock: Not for that, you dope! These are wonderful 8 x 10’s that I took over the summer. I want you to hand these out to some beautiful ladies. On the back list my name, phone number, address, turn-ons, and pet peeves. (Misty grabs Brock’s ear)
Marcus: Take these pictures too!
Sakura: What’s this?
Marcus: Well Harley found out that you were going to Sandgem for a week. He figured you might run into Tucker and he wants you to give him these pictures. (She flips through the pictures) I wouldn’t go through those pictures if I were you. There are some things you shouldn’t see!
Sakura: OH MY WORD!
Marcus: Told you. That’s why he wants Tucker to see them.
Sakura: Good thing they give us air-sick bags on the plane.
Tracey: I guess the security point is as far as we go!
Sakura: I’ll see you guys in about a week. Take care!
Narrator: They all waved goodbye to Sakura for as long as they could see her walking. During the next week, Ash still had a feeling that he could change Paul around and get him away from the Emo’s. But so far, there’s been no luck. Paul just kept giving Ash the coldest shoulder and keeping him at arms length. The week came and went pretty fast and it was finally the Monday after. Sakura returned to school with the biggest smile on her face.
Ash: Wow, I can’t believe it happened.
Misty: That’s terrible.
Marisa: I know. I actually saw Miss Agatha crying this morning.
Tracey: When exactly did this happen?
Brock: I think it was yesterday morning when it happened and word spread pretty quickly around here this morning. I just thought of something! Doesn’t Sakura come back to school today?
Misty: Oh my God, she’ll be devastated! (Sakura walks up)
Sakura: Hi everybody!
All: Hey Sakura!
Ash: You’re in a good mood?
Sakura: Of course, why wouldn’t I be?
Misty: How was Sandgem?
Sakura: Incredible! The school was just the greatest. I just hope that I get in! But there isn’t a doubt in my mind now. I have to go guys. I have to go see Professor Rowan and tell him all about my trip.
Marisa: Wait a second Sakura! There’s something that you should know.
Sakura: Did something happen while I was gone? Did you guys get me something for coming back? Come on, what’s the surprise?
Misty: Sakura…We don’t know how to break it to you.
Sakura: Misty?
Misty: Yesterday, something happened and… (Tears up)
Sakura: What happened Misty?
Marisa: Professor Rowan went to the hospital...and well...Sakura, he died.
Sakura: You’re joking, right?
Brock: It’s true. It was his heart. I’m sorry Sakura.
Sakura: No, no, no, no, no! This can’t be true! YOU GUYS ARE LYING! It’s not true, he’s not dead! HE’S NOT DEAD!
Misty: Sakura relax! I know it’s tough to face reality when losing someone important to you.
Sakura: I have to go to his classroom! I’ll show you guys! He’ll be sitting at his chair grading papers as usual!
Misty: Now don't act hysterical! (Puts her hands on Sakura's shoulders) I know this is devastating news but...
Sakura: I'm telling you Misty, he's fine. He's gotta be! (She runs to the classroom) Professor Rowan, I'm back! Prof...Hey...come on. This isn't funny! (Misty and Marisa run inside)
Misty: Sakura!
Sakura: (Tears up) Someone took down his syllabus from the wall. He's going to be upset when he comes back.
Marisa: She's losing it.
Sakura: He...was just here. Every morning, he would sip his coffee from his mug and greet us when we come in. (Sobbing) And now he's gone! (Drops to her knees)
Misty: Oh Sakura...Come here! (She hugs her) It'll be okay. (Later)
Sarah: Good morning students. Yesterday, respected English teacher Professor Rowan died. Many honor students were taken under his wing and have taken a liking to his method of teaching. Professor Rowan has been working here at Pallet High for over 20 years. For those of you who are having problems coping with the loss of Professor Rowan, Scott our Guidance Councilor will take the time to talk to you. For Pallet High, I’m Sarah, your Student Body President with a special announcement!
Narrator: As was expected, Scott was pretty busy helping the students cope with the death of a beloved educator like Professor Rowan. However, no one was more devastated by the whole situation than Sakura. Meanwhile, Ash was trying his best to get Paul away from Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Dawn: Look, Paul is a lost cause. Why don’t you just admit that and go on with trying to be a mentor to some other freshmen? Maybe someone who isn't a complete prick!
Ash: I know I can help him. I just have a feeling that he isn’t a lost cause.
Dawn: Since when are you optimistic?
Ash: Look, it’s just that Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn have issues and serious mental problems. Mars tried to commit suicide last year, Jupiter does drugs, and Saturn has some kind of chemical imbalance in his brain. Paul shouldn’t be around people like that. Don’t you want to help him as well?
Dawn: (Scoffs) I’d rather drink anti-freeze from my mother’s car!
Ash: Don't be like that! You’re just as concerned as I am.
Dawn: Maybe. I guess I would hate to see him do something stupid. But seeing as though Paul hasn’t done anything to danger himself, I don’t think the group is doing any harm.
Ash: And that’s why I’m going to have a certain friend of mine dig up some dirt. (A couple of minutes later in the front office)
Marisa: Ash, I’m busy doing paper work and you have class in a few minutes! What do you want?
Ash: Marisa, you’ve got to help us. We need any information you have on Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Marisa: Well, all three are planets in the solar system. Honestly Ash, that’s grade school material!
Ash: I KNEW THAT ALREADY! I’m talking about those three unstable emos that Paul has decided to rely on as friends. Now spill it!
Marisa: I know, I know, I just wanted to have a little fun with you. Firstly, all three are into heavy metal. I should know because when I went to see Marilyn Manson in concert last year, I saw them there.
Dawn: You like Marilyn Manson?
Marisa: Hey, this isn’t about me or what I like to listen to! One thing I didn’t mention before was that they have this fixation with cutting themselves.
Ash: I KNEW IT! That proves it that they’re suicidal!
Dawn: No it doesn’t! Usually people cut themselves…
Ash: It just proves that all three of those Emo’s are psycho and why I feel it’s necessary to get Paul away from them!
Marisa: Sorry you guys, that’s all of the information I have about them. I really don’t know them well enough to dig deeper. All the same, I wouldn’t try anything stupid or harsh. You never know what those three might do next. Especially Saturn!
Dawn: Another thing Marisa! How’s Sakura doing after hearing the news about Professor Rowan? I heard she took it pretty hard!
Marisa: Not too good. She spent most of the morning in Scott’s office and then went home before lunch. She was really close to him…I mean not in a student screwing around with a teacher sexually way! But I think Sakura thought of him as a second father.
Ash: I know it’s tough when you lose someone close.
Marisa: I remember how tough it was for her back in freshmen year when she saw her friend Shelly die. But with Professor Rowan, she’s known him since coming to high school. Plus, he was very helpful to her all of these years. He even gave Sakura the opportunity to visit the Sandgem campus. He was such a nice old guy!
Dawn: I’ve only had him as a teacher for a couple of months so I have no idea how it feels for Sakura.
Ash: Ah! Forget about that for now! Come on Dawn! (Ash and Dawn leave)
Marisa: Hmm…Now where was I? (At Sakura’s house)
Sakura: (Sobbing) I can’t believe that he’s gone! After all he’s done, he dies. But I shouldn’t be so depressed. After all, everyone has to die sooner or later. (Flashback)
Scott: I know death isn’t an easy subject for anybody, especially teenagers. You’ve just got to say that he is in a better place now.
Sakura: I know he is. It just hurts so much.
Scott: As death should. I’ve known Professor Rowan for many years and through that time, he’s had some pain in his life. He really didn’t give me too many details, but he would always go through life with a big smile on his face. He didn’t want his pain to interfere with the things that made his life great. And the one thing that made him happy in life was teaching.
Sakura: I know I should be happy that he isn’t suffering anymore, but still…I just can’t help but feel this uneasy feeling. (End of flashback) Oh God! (Back at school during lunch)
Marcus: Poor Sakura.
Misty: I haven’t seen her down since Shelly died. I don’t blame her for blowing off the rest of her classes today.
Tracey: How have all of the other students taken to this?
Marcus: Not as bad as Sakura. You see, Sakura started out going to study groups with him during freshmen year. Afterwards, she’s ended up with him as an English teacher every year since then.
Marisa: Rumor has it that Professor Rowan’s wife wants Sakura to deliver a eulogy during his funeral this Saturday. There’s also been talk about Winona showing up and giving a speech as well. (Brock blushes)
Brock: Dear sweet Winnie! I know it’s been over a year since the death of the father of your baby. I will make it my mission in life to be there to comfort any girl who has heartache. (Misty grabs Brock’s ear)
Misty: You’re giving me a headache! Has anyone seen Ash?
Brock: He and Dawn were outside last time I saw. (In the courtyard)
Jupiter: You hear about that teacher?
Mars: You mean that old guy that just died?
Saturn: Who would want to wait until they’re old and senile to die?
Mars: Seriously! I’ll take the pills over that any day!
Saturn: Exactly my point. Why do we live? We’re born, we suffer through life, and then we’re dead in the ground. There’s no afterlife, there’s no reincarnation, there’s no heaven or hell, there’s nothing after you die. Your body will just fester in the ground and then the worms come in to eat what remains.
Paul: Agreed. (Ash and Dawn run up) What do you two preps want?
Ash: Come on Paul, cut the foolishness and get away from these weirdos!
Paul: And who are you, my mother? Like I should listen to you! You have no idea what my life is like. You’ve just taken an interest in my life because you’re trying to fulfill your daddy’s wish of us to get along because of that adviser pairing! (Ash clinches his fist)
Ash: That’s it, you’re dead!
Paul: Go ahead and punch me if you think you’re man enough! I don’t care!
Ash: That’s easier said than done!
Dawn: STOP! Don’t fight! Paul, what the hell is the matter with you?
Paul: Why should I open up to some random skank like you?
Dawn: Random skank? You die now! (Ash holds onto her)
Paul: This is stupid! Let’s go! (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Paul leave)
Jupiter: Well that was idiotic!
Paul: Well forget about them and just keep walking.
Saturn: Hold on Paul! You insist that you don’t know those two preps and yet, they’ve been bugging you for the last couple of weeks.
Paul: Just shut up and mind your own business! (Saturn punches Paul in the face)
Saturn: You have a lot of balls for talking back to me freshman!
Paul: I don’t give a rat’s ass how old you are compared to me, I said drop it!
Mars: Unless you’re one of them secretly!
Jupiter: I wouldn’t be surprised if you start going out for the cheer squad next!
Paul: Screw you!
Saturn: Get out of here, you poser! (He pushes Paul to the ground) You’re just a poser, remember that! Your life is meaningless. You are nothing. (Spits on him) Piece of garbage. (The next morning in a classroom)
Mr. Spenser: Okay class, open your books to page 634 and continue on with reading Macbeth. Remember tomorrow, your analysis of Act One is due. (The door opens) Oh, Principal Oak…
Oak: Sorry to interrupt class like this. Ash, could I speak to you in private? (They leave the room)
Ash: What’s going on? Is it about my mother?
Oak: No Ash, this is about your freshman.
Ash: You mean Paul?
Oak: Yes. I just got a call from the hospital and they told me that Paul overdosed on prescription drugs.
Ash: Oh my God! Is he okay? Tell me he’s okay!
Oak: Well they had his stomach pumped and he’s resting right now. (At lunch)
Misty: He overdosed?
Marisa: Yes.
Tracey: Oh man, that’s terrible.
Marisa: Yeah, the front office got word today that Paul overdosed on prescription drugs and is in the hospital. I think that’s where Ash is right now seeing as he isn’t here. But I don’t blame him for going, seeing as Paul doesn’t have anyone else who would bother to visit him.
Marcus: Doesn’t Paul have any family that could visit him?
Marisa: No. I checked his record and there’s no record of his father, his mother is dead, and his brother is in jail.
Misty: How do you know?
Marisa: Never mind how I found out!
Misty: Everything is going crazy. Sakura hasn’t shown up again, Ash’s freshman is trying to kill himself...It’s just very overwhelming. (The next day in the hallway)
Dawn: Did you get a chance to see him yesterday?
Ash: Yeah, but it was a short visit. He was still knocked out. I can’t believe I let this happen.
Dawn: You didn’t let this happen! Or at least you didn’t mean to let it happen!
Morrison: Are you talking about that goth kid that you’re an adviser to?
Ash: What’s it to you?
Morrison: Hey, don’t snap at me! All I’m saying is that the kid you’re an adviser to, is a suicidal nut job!
Ash: Shut up!
Morrison: It’s true! I mean after what happened last week.
Ash: Wait, what happened last week?
Morrison: I thought you wanted me to shut up!
Ash: YOU BETTER TELL ME FAT BOY!
Morrison: I’M NOT FAT I’M BIG BONED!
Dawn: TELL US YOU IDIOT!
Morrison: (Whimpers) Yes ma’am! Well last week, I was walking home and I heard some weird sounds coming from the bushes. I took a little peek and saw that Paul guy slitting his wrists.
Dawn: Oh my! (Misty walks up)
Ash: Oh hey!
Misty: Have you guys seen Sakura?
Dawn: Not this morning. (Misty sighs) Come on Misty, it is hard when someone loses somebody close. It’ll take Sakura some time to come around.
Misty: It’s not just that! I was talking with her last night and she told me that she wasn’t going to do the eulogy at the funeral. She isn’t even going to the funeral!
Ash: She won’t even go to the funeral?
Misty: I don’t know why she won’t do it! This just doesn’t sound like Sakura! But enough about that! Tell me how Paul is doing.
Ash: He wasn’t responsive yesterday. But I’m pretty confident that he’ll make a full recovery.
Morrison: Yeah, just so he can attempt suicide again.
Ash: What part of shut up do you not understand? (Later in Scott’s office)
Scott: Well Misty, it is Sakura’s decision on whether or not to speak at the funeral. Although, you are right, it doesn’t sound like something she’d say.
Misty: Exactly my point!
Scott: But it’s not in our nature to force her to do something that she doesn’t want to. It’s her way of grieving and as a friend, you should really be there to understand that decision.
Misty: But if she cares about Professor Rowan…
Scott: I know it may be hard to understand, but people do this all the time. I knew one of my friends who had a father who died and she didn’t want to speak or even go to the funeral. It just depends on that person. Everyone is different and in times like these they grieve differently.
Misty: (Thinking) But still…Sakura shouldn't be like this! (She leaves the office)
Winona: Thank you Miss Agatha.
Misty: I know that voice! Winona?
Winona: Misty, it’s you!
Misty: Hi Winona. I take it you’re visiting after hearing about Professor Rowan.
Winona: Yeah, Miss Agatha gave me the information. It’s just very sad that Professor Rowan died. He was such a nice man.
Misty: Death isn’t an easy subject.
Winona: It isn’t an easy subject for anybody and I know from experience. (She kisses her baby) How have you been?
Misty: Not so good. I’m worried about Sakura.
Winona: Sakura’s taking the death harder than expected?
Misty: Professor Rowan’s wife even asked for her to speak at the funeral and she won’t do it. I know everybody is telling me that it’s her decision, but something just tells me that she needs a good talking to.
Winona: Do you remember what happened after Wallace’s death? At first, I didn’t want to speak at the funeral. I thought that there was no point! But, I finally went through with it. Afterwards, I felt a sense of accomplishment and my lunch coming back on me. Give her some time and eventually, Sakura will come around.
Misty: I sure hope that you’re right. Saturday is approaching pretty fast. (That night at Ash’s house)
Ash: (Laughing) Oh Scott Baio, when will you ever learn? (Phone rings) Ha! Who says VH1 is for morons who can barely read?
Delia: Ash, you have a phone call. It’s a girl named Dawn.
Ash: I wonder what she wants. (Grabs the phone) What’s up Dawn?
Dawn: Ash! I was leaving rehearsals for the day and I went outside, and I looked up at the top of the gym and Paul is standing there. He looks like he’s about to jump!
Ash: Are you sure!
Dawn: Positive! You’ve got to come here, he won’t listen to me.
Ash: I knew one day, somebody would try and commit suicide off of that building. Dawn relax. I’ll be there soon and whatever you do, don’t call the police. I think I can talk him down without getting the authorities involved.
Dawn: Okay…Ash, I called the police!
Ash: Oh God! (Hangs up) This is awful!
Delia: What’s the matter honey?
Ash: Mom, you have to take me to the school. It’s a matter of life or death!
Delia: Why? What’s going on?
Ash: I’ll explain on the way! (At Sakura’s house)
Sakura: I wonder if it was a wise decision… (Doorbell rings) Wonder who that is? (She opens the door) Misty? What are you doing here?
Misty: I wanted to check on you. How are you?
Sakura: I’ve been better.
Misty: Look Sakura, I really think you should speak at the funeral.
Sakura: I don’t want to hear it from you too. I’ve had to hear it from my parents for the past couple of days.
Misty: Give me one reason why you don’t want to do it!
Sakura: Go away!
Misty: Just one! (Sakura growls) There, you can’t even give me one reason.
Sakura: It’s just too sad to even talk about Misty. Professor Rowan was like a family member to me and losing him hurt.
Misty: I’ve never lost anyone that close to me, but what I know is that if you deeply care about that person, you would remember the good times you’ve had. How he’s helped you all of these years! What kind of impact he made on your life! What do you think he would say if he were actually alive? (Sakura sighs) The funeral is this weekend and the opportunity is still open. (Misty walks outside)
Winona: What happened?
Misty: We won’t know until the funeral. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see.
Winona: Come on, I’ll take you home. (Back at the school)
Delia: Oh my, look at this place!
Ash: Dawn! Did he jump?
Dawn: Not yet. Right now the police are trying to talk him down.
Ash: I thought he was in the hospital.
Dawn: Well apparently he escaped the hospital and came back here. I wonder why he came back here.
Ash: I don’t know. But I’m going to find out! (Ash runs past the police and into the building)
Officer Jenny: GET BACK HERE!
Dawn: ASH NO!
Delia: What’s he doing? (Back on the roof)
Paul: Time to put an end to it all. (The door opens)
Ash: PAUL STOP!
Paul: What the hell are you doing here?
Ash: I’m here to stop you before you do something stupid.
Paul: Leave me alone! (Below)
Dawn: Ash you idiot, why’d you go in there? He might take you out with him!
Delia: HE’LL WHAT?! (Nearby in Winona’s car)
Winona: Hey cheer up Misty! I’m sure Sakura will make the right decision soon. (Misty sighs) Oh boy. (Turns on the radio station)
Radio DJ: We’re back to breaking news from outside Pallet High School!
Misty: What?
Radio DJ: On top of the highest building of this high school, two boys are planning to jump. We’ve got word of the names of the two students. One is a senior, Ash Ketchum and the other is Paul…
Misty: ASH IS JUMPING?!
Winona: Hang on Misty! We’ll stop him before it’s too late! (Back on top of the building)
Ash: Come on Paul. Don’t do this.
Paul: Stay out of this. None of this concerns you.
Ash: It does when someone is about to throw their whole life away. Come on Paul, committing suicide isn’t the answer. You don’t have to prove anything to those weirdo people you hang out with!
Paul: (Scoffs) I don’t hang out with those gay-wads anymore.
Ash: Huh? Then why are you doing this?
Paul: Life is meaningless. I couldn’t stand this world ever since I could remember. I can’t stand anybody or myself. What’s the point?
Ash: What’s going on with you?
Paul: You just don’t understand. You'll never understand the pain I've carried with me my whole life. You, with your privileged family and friends. What the hell would you know of pain? (Below)
Dawn: Come on Ash!
Delia: WHY ISN’T ANYBODY DOING ANYTHING? (Winona and Misty pull up)
Misty: WHERE’S ASH?
Dawn: He’s on top of the building!
Misty: I have to go after him, he’s going to jump!
Dawn: What? No he isn’t! He’s stopping Paul from jumping.
Misty: Oh thank God! I was afraid that Ash was going to jump for a second. (People screaming)
Delia: OH MY GOD! SOMEBODY’S FALLING!
Dawn: Is that Paul or is it…?
Misty: ASH!
Dawn: WAIT! That’s Paul! (The body falls down to the ground) Oh my God!
Delia: How horrible!
Misty: Where’s Ash? (Ash walks out of the building) There he is! (The police handcuff him) WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Policeman: We’re taking him down to the station for questioning.
Misty: But…
Ash: It’s okay Misty! I’ll be okay!
Narrator: Ash left in the police car and of course Delia followed them to try and get her son out of jail and keeping him from saying the wrong thing to incriminate him any further. The Coroner came by to pick up Paul’s dead body up from the sidewalk. The following morning, word spread all over school of the death of Paul and word was also picking up saying that Ash pushed him over the edge of the building. Though, Ash’s friends weren’t convinced of all that crap going around so tried setting the record straight on Ash not being a murderer. Luckily, Principal Oak had video cameras installed on the rooftop. The tape contained Ash trying to get Paul to come down and Paul jumping. Because of the tape, Ash was a free man. However, Ash decided not to go to school for the rest of the week. Who could blame him? Ash just witnessed the death of a freshman he was assigned to watch out for. It was finally the weekend and it was the funeral of Professor Rowan and some of the students have decided to come.
Dawn: Ash…you came! How do you feel?
Ash: What the hell do you think?
Dawn: Sorry. (He tears up)
Misty: Oh Ash…
Ash: I could have saved him.
Dawn: You can’t save them all. I know it might not mean much to you now, but you’ll learn in time that some people can be saved and some aren’t so lucky.
Ash: You sound like a friggin’ pastor! (Sighs) I know you mean well with your words Dawn...it's just that this is going to take some time.
Dawn: Will there be a service for Paul?
Ash: I don't think so. There's no one from his family able to claim his ashes seeing as he has no parents and his brother is in jail. (Sighs) I hope that wherever you are Paul, you're finally in peace.
Dawn: Well, it’s almost time for Professor Rowan’s service.
Misty: Sakura’s here! (Sakura walks over) How are you doing Sakura?
Sakura: I’m okay. Ash, I’m sorry about what happened with Paul. I hope you’re feeling okay and that you’re able to cope with death a hell of a lot better than I was able to.
Ash: I know how it was for you except I’ve only known Paul for two months. But no matter how you sugarcoat it, death is death. Death hurts everybody even if you’ve only known them for a short period. (Sakura nods)
Dawn: So are you going to speak? (Sakura walks away)
Sakura: Come on, we’re going to be late. (They sit down)
Dawn: So is she going to speak?
Misty: She’s going to the podium so that’s a good sign.
Winona: Ssh. It’s starting!
Sakura: Professor Rowan was indeed an inspiration to just about everyone who has known him. I’ve heard many different stories from many different people that he was very strict with his lessons, but also very caring. I’ve had him as a teacher for the past three years and I for one will take his lessons to heart. After all that he has done for me, it’s the least I could do. I will always go with the words he told me before he died, “Don’t ever doubt yourself. If you doubt, you might never know what will happen. And not knowing what will happen, means you’ll miss out on something important.” He lived by that saying up until the day he died. If he lived by doubt, he wouldn’t have had the amazing life he’s had. Even though it hurts so much that he’s gone, I know he’s in a much better place now. May he rest in peace! (Applause and cheers) Thank you. (Thinking) Thank you Professor Rowan. Thank you for everything. I will miss you.
