~New Character Introduced~
Roark
Original Date of Post: 02/17/2008
Narrator: No matter how you try and avoid it, there really is no way of stopping it. And that is getting sick! Catching the cold, the flu, strep throat, and even tuberculosis! And getting any one of those flat sucks! I know that every year I try to avoid sick people as much as possible, but somehow I still manage to get sick. I HATE GETTING SICK!!!
Marisa: Hey Sakura. That boy is checking you out again.
Sakura: What boy?
Marisa: That one over there. Roark!
Sakura: Roark? (Blushes) Why, why, why would he be checking me out?
Marisa: Do you have some sort of crush on this boy?
Sakura: Who me?
Marisa: No, the Pope! Of course I’m talking about you!
Sakura: Well…to tell you the truth, Roark is kind of cute. I mean, he’s decent looking. He’s also very sweet and sincere…
Marisa: And an idiot, like his older brother?
Sakura: He’s nothing like Noland! Roark at least knows about statutory rape. (Marcus walks up)
Marcus: She’s right little buddy. Roark is a nice guy. I have him for a couple of classes and as far as I know, he’s pretty clean.
Marisa: Well that’s reassuring!
Sakura: You act like you’re the one he’s checking out. Wait! For all I know he could be checking you out! (Marisa blushes)
Marisa: Impossible! (Roark walks up)
Roark: What’s up you guys?
Marcus: How’s it going Roark?
Roark: Oh just busy as usual Marcus. Sakura, I was wondering if I could talk to you in private. (She blushes)
Sakura: Um…sure thing. (They walk away)
Marcus: I guess junior year is the special year.
Marisa: What makes you say that?
Marcus: Well as you can plainly see, everyone is being bitten by the love bug. First May hooks up with our old pal Drew, and now its Sakura’s turn to be bitten.
Marisa: Please! The way Roark came up to Sakura, he looked like he was trying to bum off some easy answers from Sakura. He knows that Sakura is a one-way ticket to him getting an A in any class.
Marcus: I don’t know! It feels more like love to me.
Marisa: You must be huffing paint!
Marcus: And when are you going to tell Tra…?
Marisa: Shut up Marcus! Sure I would love to tell Tracey how I feel…
Marcus: Oh hi Tracey! (Marisa gasps)
Marisa: Huh? Where’s Tracey?
Marcus: (Laughs) Sorry about that one! (Marisa growls) I just thought it would be funny to see your reaction if you thought Tracey was right behind you. (She slaps the back of his head) Sorry about that little buddy!
Marisa: Think before you act next time!
Marcus: Well like I said, the love bug is spreading. (Sneezing nearby) And apparently the cold bug is spreading too. (Sneezing continues) Huh? Oh dear, Misty must have caught a nasty cold.
Marisa: A cold? Damn, it’s that time of year again! I don’t know about the love bug, but I know the cold bug is about to spread like wild fire.
Marcus: Just try not to go overboard with protecting yourself again. I don’t want another year where I go blind for a couple of hours because you spray disinfectant in my face.
Marisa: Oh please, please, please just let it be allergies that Misty has! (Nearby)
Roark: How have you been Sakura?
Sakura: I’ve been alright for the most part.
Roark: You’re looking very well.
Sakura: Um…thanks.
Roark: I hope you wouldn’t mind me asking you out?
Sakura: You mean on a date?
Roark: Of course. You don’t mind, do you?
Sakura: Not at all! I’m just shocked that you’re even asking me.
Roark: Well, it’s your sweet personality that gets to me.
Sakura: (Thinking) The personality! Why do boys always say that first?
Roark: I guess this is my way of getting to know you a little better.
Sakura: By asking me out on a date? Do you do this with every girl in the class?
Roark: I take it you’ve met my older brother Noland.
Sakura: I’m familiar with him.
Roark: To tell you the truth Sakura, I’m actually pretty shy around girls. I know Noland’s philosophy was to get in the girl’s bed and find out her name later. Yeah, I’m not following his way. Plus, I’m just tired of these wild girls coming onto me.
Sakura: Well, there are a few rotten ones out of the bunch for sure. (Misty walks by and coughs) Misty! Are you okay?
Misty: Ugh! I feel horrible!
Sakura: Come on sweetie, you shouldn’t be here today. I’ll take you to Nurse Joy; she’ll know what to do.
Misty: (Weakly) Thank you Sakura! (In the Nurse’s office)
Nurse Joy: I want to thank you for helping Misty, Sakura! Apparently, there’s some kind of cold spreading through the area.
Roark: Thank God I got that flu shot!
Nurse Joy: I called her parents and they’ll be here to pick her up soon. In the meantime, she’ll rest in one of the beds.
Sakura: Thank you Nurse Joy! Get well soon Misty! (Misty groans)
Nurse Joy: Alright, let’s leave Misty to her rest. (Sakura and Roark leave the room)
Roark: Sweet, caring, and kind! Why can’t most girls be like you? (Sakura blushes) Here you go! (Hands her a piece of paper) It’s my phone number!
Sakura: Great! And here’s my phone number! (Hands him a piece of paper) When did you want to go on that date?
Roark: How about this weekend?
Sakura: Oh, I can’t do it this weekend. I have a big test to study for this weekend and you know how much my studies mean to me.
Roark: Right. Well how about next weekend? I was thinking we could do it next Thursday after school.
Sakura: Oh yeah, we have that Friday off. Next Thursday sounds great! (At lunch)
Marcus: Here comes Sakura!
Marisa: She’s smiling and humming a happy tune! (Sakura sits down) I take it things went pretty well between you and Roark.
Sakura: They sure did. We exchanged phone numbers and we’re even going on a date!
May: You’ve got a date?
Sakura: Yup! Next Thursday!
Marcus: I can’t believe that you got one with Roark. Despite him being the younger brother of Noland, the dumbass, Roark is a pretty decent guy.
Marisa: Well I’m sure you’ll have a great time with Roark. I can’t believe you’ll be going on your first date!
Sakura: Actually, this won’t be my first date. I’ve already been on a date before.
Marisa: How nice for you. (Thinking) Am I the only girl who hasn’t been on her first date yet?
Brock: Say, where’s Misty?
Tracey: Yeah, I haven’t seen her around all morning.
Sakura: Poor thing, she’s sick! Nurse Joy told me that there’s a little cold bug going around.
Marisa: She’s sick? (Thinking) Crap! And I was so hoping for it to just be allergies!
Sakura: Yeah, most likely the flu! She had a slight fever, her throat was acting up, and she had chills.
Marisa: The flu? Oh crap!
Brock: What’s the matter with you?
Marcus: Um, Marisa isn’t one for getting sick! She avoids getting sick every year if she can help it!
Marisa: He’s right! If I’m sick, I miss school and then I get behind in my work. It’s a real pain in the butt and rather inconvenient.
Marcus: You’re only telling half of that story! She’s afraid of getting sick because…
Marisa: Shut your mouth, before I rip it off!
Tracey: I’m with Marisa on this one! I hate getting sick too! Especially when you’re in the bathroom every five minutes! That sucks!
Marisa: Thank you Tracey! Finally, somebody understands me!
Ash: What are you talking about? Getting sick is the greatest thing ever! Sooner or later, I catch something and boom, I get a day off from school and no worries. Maybe even two if I’m lucky! What I want to do is get sick for next Thursday since I have this damn math test!
Marisa: You know you could pass your math test if you actually spent the time studying and not procrastinating by picking fights with Morrison and watching Cops on TV.
Sakura: Yeah, well if you do get sick; keep the hell away from me because that’s when my date is with Roark.
Narrator: Well sure enough the week came and went pretty fast. And of course, the flu that Nurse Joy spoke of went all around school. Students were already dropping like flies. It was finally the Thursday that Sakura was supposed to meet Roark. So far she’s done pretty well not getting sick. But if she makes it through the day, that’ll be an accomplishment itself. (Ash coughs) Oh that’s right! Ash has a math test today.
Ash: That’s right I do!
Narrator: And I take it you’re not really sick today.
Ash: No.
Narrator: And I see you’re trying to pull the old thermometer under the light trick to raise your temperature!
Ash: Do you think my mom will fall for it?
Narrator: I don’t think so! Your mother may be a ditz, but I think she’ll have hard time believing that you have a 106 degree temperature and not actually showing the symptoms.
Ash: Damn! You’re right! (Shakes off the thermometer) Wish me luck!
Narrator: (Quietly) Yeah, you’ll need it! Sad sack!
Ash: God, I’m not a praying guy. But if you could possibly help me out here and get me out of that math test, that would be great.
Delia: Ash, are you up yet?
Ash: Amen! (The door opens)
Delia: Ash, you’re going to be late for school. (Ash coughs) Oh honey, are you feeling ill today? (Coughs)
Ash: I feel a little icky today.
Delia: Well, let me check. (Feels his forehead) You don’t feel warm.
Ash: Ugh! (Thermometer beeps) Check the thermometer.
Delia: Well it says you are 98.6.
Ash: What? That’s impossible! Check it again!
Delia: Ash, it says 98.6.
Ash: Well then, maybe the thermometer is broken. Okay, let’s go to the store and buy one, we have time!
Delia: Ash, I’m not going to the store just for that. Is there a test you want to get out of?
Ash: (Thinking) She can read me like a book! (Aloud) Me? Of course not! I just don’t feel very well today.
Delia: Uh-huh! You know, I do have the rectal thermometer that I used to use on you when you were a baby. If you are that sick, maybe I could…
Ash: I’m going to school now!
Delia: Very good!
Ash: (Thinking) I’ve got to find a way to get out of that math test. (At school in the front office)
Oak: Thank the great, good Lord that you are not sick!
Marisa: It’s really no problem!
Oak: Miss Agatha got sick two days ago and she still doesn’t have the energy to leave her bed. I told her last week to get a flu shot. A woman her age shouldn’t be going unprotected against the flu. And then she yelled at me for calling her old.
Marisa: You really should have chosen your words a little better.
Oak: Perhaps. But anyways, I do appreciate you doing some of the extra work around here.
Marisa: Well, I can do some work before class, during the period I’m actually here, and during lunch.
Oak: (Looks out the window) Yuck! The students look worse than they did yesterday. I hate cold and flu season. Say, you wouldn’t happen to have an extra one of those surgical masks, would you?
Marisa: Sorry, I only have this one that I’m wearing.
Oak: Figures!
Marisa: I’ll be sure to spray your office with disinfectant! I brought an extra bottle.
Oak: Oh, you are a saint! (Near the locker area)
Sakura: Okay, I just have to get through today and I’ll finally get to go out with Roark.
Misty: Very good Sakura!
Sakura: I’m so excited! Roark seems like a very nice guy! (Brock sneezes) What the hell was that?
Brock: Sorry! (Sniffles) It was just me!
Misty: Oh, you got sick too!
Brock: Yeah! You were the one who got me sick!
Misty: Don’t blame me! I wasn’t the last one who got sick, it was Marcus!
Brock: Oh yeah! (Sniffles) He left the bathroom a real mess the other day. The janitor is still cursing Marcus’s name.
Misty: Don’t forget, you have nine brothers and sisters at your house. It was bound to happen!
Brock: No. (Sniffles) Everyone in my family is healthy today.
Sakura: Why don’t you go home?
Brock: Not going to happen! (Hacks) If I go home, I’m going to get all of my siblings sick and then I’m spending my nights alone taking care of them.
Sakura: I don’t care if Michael Jackson is at your house butt-raping a monkey, go home and get some rest. (Groans) Damn it! I can’t afford to get sick now!
Brock: I’m not that sick! (Hacks)
Ash: What the? Who’s sick?!
Sakura: Brock is!
Ash: Brock, my oldest and dearest friend! You have to breathe on me! You HAVE to get me sick!
Brock: What test is it this time?
Ash: It’s a math test in sixth period.
Misty: And what did you do instead of studying?
Ash: Played basketball with Richie and Morrison! Oh yeah, and then there was this two-day marathon of Cops.
Sakura: Boy, Marisa sure called that one!
Misty: Procrastination once again has taken over! You really need to learn how to control your time better!
Sakura: Well, maybe you’ll get lucky and you’ll get sick before sixth period. It really doesn’t take long for one to get sick. That or you can fake being sick!
Ash: Come on Brock. Help a friend out!
Brock: I’ve got to get to class! (Hacks) If I make it there without passing out that is!
Narrator: This last day before the three day weekend was one of the longest days in history, at least of what it seemed like. Marisa and Sakura continued a method of avoiding others to try and not get sick. Meanwhile, Ash was doing everything in his power to try and get sick and to get out from taking a math test. Brock still felt like crap! It was so bad that his first period teacher got concerned and sent him to Nurse Joy’s office. (Coughing)
Sakura: Damn.
Narrator: Don’t tell me you’re getting sick too!
Sakura: It’s just a little tickle in my throat. Nothing serious! (She walks away)
Narrator: Yeah right! What about you?
Ash: Nothing yet!
Narrator: Well its lunch period now. You still have a little more time before your test to think of something. (He walks away) Looks like things are about to get more interesting around here.
Sakura: (Sneezes) Damn Brock!
Misty: Let me see! (Feels Sakura’s forehead) Well, you do feel a little warm and your skin is paler than usual!
Ash: Damn! First Brock and now Sakura!
Sakura: It’s because of your damn friend that I’m sick! This is the worst possible thing that could have happened! My date with Roark is ruined!
Misty: Maybe you could just postpone the date until you feel better.
Sakura: Damn it! I don’t want to! (Sniffles) Besides, it’s probably because of allergies that I’m sneezing. (Sneezes) Ugh!
Tracey: Maybe Misty’s right! Hmm…Where is Marisa? Don’t tell me she’s sick too!
Misty: No, she’s not sick. She’s doing some overtime at the office! Since Miss Agatha has gotten sick, she’s had to do some extra office work. (In the front office)
Marisa: I’ll be there as soon as I get off from school Marcus!
Marcus: Do you promise? I don’t want you flaking out since you are squeamish at the sight of puke!
Marisa: I can’t help that! We’ll see how the day goes and I might be over. Now look, I have to get back to work! You shouldn’t be calling me in the middle of school anyways!
Marcus: I’ll see you today! (She hangs up)
Marisa: Ugh! He’s nuts if I’m going over there today! Not when there’s a flu epidemic all around! I’m not taking any chances! (Phone rings) Thank you for calling Pallet High School’s front office!
Miss Agatha: Marisa, you are a saint! I’m so glad that you’ve decided to take on all of this responsibility.
Marisa: Thank you Miss Agatha! So, what did you need to tell me? Uh-huh! I got that taken care of and I’ll get on that right away! (Oak screams) Uh-oh! Principal Oak is having some sort of breakdown. I’ll have to get back to you. (Hangs up)
Oak: (Screaming) CODE RED! CODE RED!
Marisa: I’m coming! (Opens the door) What’s the problem? OH DEAR GOD! Who did this in here!
Oak: Miss Prima sent a trouble-making student and right when I was talking to him he does…THIS on my carpet!
Marisa: Ew! Gross! I hate that sight! Ugh!
Oak: And people wonder why I never went into medical school! It’s because I’m squeamish of the sight of puke and blood!
Marisa: I’ll get the janitor!
Oak: Tell him he’s getting a raise for cleaning this mess up! Ugh! (Marisa runs out of the office)
Misty: Whoa! Where’s the fire?
Marisa: NO TIME! (Runs to the janitor’s closet)
Tracey: Uh-oh! Looks like another person is sick!
Misty: This is getting crazy.
Tracey: I wonder if the janitor is going to make a voodoo doll to go along with the Marcus voodoo doll he has.
Marisa: It’s in the front office! Thank you so much again! (Janitor growls) Ugh, that’s an image I have to get out of my mind. (Sighs) Only half the day to go!
Tracey: Yo Marisa!
Marisa: Huh? Oh hi guys! (She runs over) Okay, sorry you guys! I’ve been pretty busy around the office!
Tracey: I’m actually surprised you haven’t gotten sick! You must have been one of the lucky ones who got a flu shot.
Marisa: I don’t trust flu shots, so I don’t get them. What about you Tracey? You’ve been in school everyday since we got back from winter break.
Tracey: Actually I did get sick during winter break. That was not a fun New Years.
Misty: Hey, where’s your doctor’s mask?
Marisa: What the hell? (Feels her face) Oh man! I must have taken it off when I was speaking on the phone! Sorry you guys, I’ve got to get out of here! (She walks off)
Misty: She’s like this every year! (Sakura hacking)
Tracey: Sakura, maybe you should consider going to the Nurse’s office!
Sakura: No chance! It’s just my allergies kicking in!
Misty: In the beginning of January?
Sakura: There are some plants that grow at this time of year you know and I just have a very sensitive nose! (Coughs) And then it gets into my throat!
Misty: You are sick Sakura! And if you go on this date, you’ll feel worse and you’ll end up getting Roark sick as well!
Sakura: Not true! He was one of the lucky ones who got a flu shot! I knew I should have gotten one when I had the chance! Huh? (Picks something up from the ground) What luck! A doctor’s mask!
Misty: You’re not going to put that on your face are you? Hey wait! This is Marisa’s doctor’s mask! (Marisa runs up)
Marisa: God damn it! And that was my only one! I’m going back to work! (She walks away)
Misty: So long! (Ash walks up)
Ash: OH MY STOMACH! OH MY HEAD!
Misty: What is wrong with you?
Ash: Don’t worry! I’m not sick…yet! Because of that, I have to resort to Plan B which is to fake sick.
Misty: I’m not one to criticize anyone’s acting, but your acting sick technique sucks!
Ash: Oh please! Ask anyone in the drama department and they’ll tell you that I am very convincing! (Drew walks by)
Drew: Your acting sucks!
Ash: What do you know?
Misty: A lot more than you! (The bell rings)
Ash: Wish me luck!
Tracey: Somehow, I know that this is going to end badly!
Narrator: Let’s just skip ahead to sixth period. It is now time for Ash to face the music and take his long-awaited math test.
Ash: I’m so dead!
Narrator: I take it that none of the teachers before sixth period believed you were sick.
Ash: No and they said my acting sucks. Maybe if I fake sick now, my math teacher might let me go to the nurse’s office.
Narrator: Unless you can pull off projectile vomiting, I seriously doubt that. (Ash sighs) I think you should also know that your fourth and fifth period teachers just told your math teacher that you were trying to get out of something and to not fall for your sick act.
Ash: How do you know that?
Narrator: I’m the narrator. I am everywhere and know everything.
Ash: And probably Marisa’s father for all I know. (Sighs) Time to face the music!
Narrator: Dead man walking! Huh? Where’s Sakura? Oh there she is! Oh man, she looks awful! There’s no way in hell she’s going on that date tonight.
Sakura: (Thinking) I’ve just got to make it through one more class and then I can enjoy my date with Roark. (Coughs) If I make it to class that is!
Roark: Hey Sakura.
Sakura: Hi Roark.
Roark: Whoa, you don’t look too good.
Sakura: I’m fine. It’s nothing.
Roark: Are you sure?
Sakura: I said I’m fi…Ugh…Oh. (She faints)
Roark: Sakura! SAKURA! (In the nurse’s office)
Nurse Joy: She’s coming around. (Sakura opens her eyes)
Sakura: Huh? Where am I? Nurse Joy? (Screams) I’m late for class! (Nurse Joy holds onto her) Let me go! I’m going to be late to class!
Nurse Joy: You have to lie down Sakura, you are very sick! Now I called your mother and she’ll be over any minute.
Sakura: Oh! This is terrible!
Nurse Joy: Thank you for bringing her in Roark.
Sakura: Roark?
Roark: You scared me when you fainted in the middle of the hallway.
Sakura: Oh…I’m sorry Roark.
Roark: Don’t be. I can’t blame you for being sick. But I guess we have to call off the date. We can always postpone our date until next week when you’re feeling better.
Sakura: Thank you so much! I’m sorry that this had to happen!
Roark: Oh it’s not your fault!
Nurse Joy: Okay, let’s have her rest a bit.
Roark: I hope you feel better!
Sakura: (Groans) This sucks! (After school in the hallway)
Misty: Poor Sakura! I talked to Roark a little while ago and he said that she fainted while he was talking to her.
Tracey: Whoa.
Misty: Well she’s home now and she’ll have to wait until next week for the date.
Tracey: Oh, she’s had her heart set on going on that date with Roark. (Ash walks up)
Misty: How was your test?
Ash: Awful! I know I failed the test for sure. And you know what’s strange? I think I finally got the flu now!
Misty: Serves you right! You shouldn’t have been trying to get out of the test in the first place!
Ash: Misty, I hate to interrupt your lecture, but my lunch is about to come out the wrong exit! (Ash runs to the bathroom)
Tracey: Not again!
Misty: I’ll get the janitor! (In the front office)
Marisa: There! All finished! Now I can go home for the three day weekend!
Oak: Thank you so much Marisa! Well thankfully, Miss Agatha just called me and told me that she might have enough energy to go to the teacher’s meeting tomorrow.
Marisa: That’s great to hear Principal Oak.
Oak: Now you get some rest and I will see you on Monday.
Marisa: Thank… (Sneezes) You…Oh no! I can’t get sick now! (Sniffles)
Oak: Well, at least you’ll get it out of the way this weekend so you can get back to work on Monday. (Marisa groans)
Marisa: Ugh! I knew I shouldn’t have taken off my doctor’s mask!
Narrator: Three days later!
Misty: Marcus, I see you’re back to your old self!
Marcus: Yeah, a couple of days in bed did the trick. Unfortunately, little buddy is still stuck in bed. But she told me that she’ll be back tomorrow.
May: I hope she feels better.
Marcus: Yeah, she’s been in bed all weekend with a fever of 102 that wouldn’t go down.
Misty: What about you Brock?
Brock: I feel 100% better now! But I wish I could say the same thing about my younger siblings! All of them caught my sickness and now I have to watch over them once I get home from school.
Marcus: Well that sucks. That’s why I’m happy just being an only child.
Brock: Shut up Marcus.
Marcus: You’re not Marisa, you can’t tell me what to do.
Brock: Yeah well she’s not here! (Ash walks up) Hey man!
Misty: You feeling better? (Ash groans)
Tracey: Does that mean he’s feeling better or he’s feeling worse than last week?
Ash: This sucks! I couldn’t get out of my math test on Thursday, then I get sick for the entire three day weekend, and now I feel better, but I’m back in school!
Marcus: Oh, it is that wonderful thing I call karma!
Ash: Huh? What does a sticky, gooey treat have to do with my story?
Marcus: Huh? (All groan) I said karma, not caramel! My God, how stupid can you be?
Ash: Oh, then what is karma?
Marcus: Let me guess Ash. There’s been a lot of cousin’s marrying each other in your family, hasn’t there? (Sakura walks up)
Misty: Oh Sakura! You’re back! How are you feeling?
Sakura: Well, my sickness has lifted! So now I’m well enough to go on my date!
Misty: I’ll say. Roark must have been so worried about you.
Sakura: If you really want to know something, he called me Thursday night to make sure I got home okay. But after Thursday, I didn’t hear from him at all. (Todd walks up)
Todd: Marcus! I got new pictures this morning! I was around town yesterday taking random pictures when I saw my good buddy Roark on a date.
Sakura: What do you mean date? I was at home all day yesterday.
Todd: He wasn’t with you! He was with her in the picture.
Sakura: Erica?
Misty: Wait a minute! Is it theatre Erika or volleyball Erica!
Marcus: Volleyball. Theatre Erika has Joshua.
Sakura: That blue-haired witch! I thought that Roark wanted to be with me.
Todd: Honey, I’m good friends with Roark. Take it from me; he’s just like his older brother. Except that he’s smarter, prettier, and is still a virgin.
Sakura: (Sighs) I hate men!

Brock: The next chapter will be one of those nights you will look back with your therapist and laugh. Well maybe not with all the drama that we gotta witness. Why must we fight during a birthday party? Well I'm sure this night won't be a total waste. Especially since the lovely Winona and Daisy are going to pop by for a visit. Oh my charming beauties! Next time on Romance 101, Chapter 29...See you next time!
