Narrator: To a girl, her 16th birthday is one of those most important milestones next to her wedding day and senior Prom. A lot can happen when you turn 16. Sometimes there’s a new car in the picture! And other times, it could mean…romance!
Marisa: Come on Misty!
Misty: Come on what?
Sakura: Don’t play stupid on us! You should have some sort of celebration for your own birthday.
Misty: I really don’t see the sense in making such a big deal.
Marisa: It is a big deal! Misty, this is your 16th birthday! This is the year when everything changes. At least, that is what I’ve been told!
Sakura: Not to mention, your birthday lands on Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year! Great day for loving!
Marisa: Valentine’s Day is Friday, so you’ve only got a few days left.
Misty: (Sighs) I’ll see you guys later! (She walks away) Geez, if my friends are this bad, I hate to think of how my sister’s are going to react! (That night at Misty’s house)
Daisy: But Misty…
Misty: I don’t want to talk about it! Now go away! (She slams her door)
Daisy: Geez, what a pain! She’s never going to get a boyfriend with that attitude!
Violet: Maybe that’s what she really needs for her sixteenth birthday. We should help her out by hooking her up with some cute boys and they can go on a date on her birthday.
Lily: That’s actually a good idea.
Violet: That’s why I have the brains out of the bunch!
Daisy: Glad you got something because we all know it wasn’t the looks! (Violet gives her the finger)
Lily: In the meantime, let’s get that sister of ours off of that attitude of hers. (They knock on her door)
Misty: What do you guys want? (The door opens) Can’t I have a little privacy?
Daisy: This will only take a second! Sweetie, do you realize the importance of getting older? Turning 16 is one of those moments you’re supposed to treasure. At 13, you get your first designer outfit. At age 18, your first lap dance and cigarette! And at 21, it's Las Vegas, Nevada! But 16 is usually the age when you get that first kiss. Why, I remember our 16th birthdays!
Misty: Oh of course, I can’t forget. Lily got a boyfriend who had a motorcycle and tattoos all over his body, Violet was in that ridiculous debutant ball, and you got a car from Mom and Dad.
Daisy: So it’s only natural to have some sort of celebration.
Lily: Are there any boys you’re interested in?
Misty: No, no, no! You don’t need to interfere in my love life any further! Just get out, please! (They leave) The last thing I need is for them to ruin my chances with any boys. (The next morning at school)
Tracey: Oh Misty, could I speak to you for a second?
Misty: Hey Tracey, what’s going on?
Tracey: Your sisters are acting a little weird.
Misty: They are weird.
Tracey: No, that’s not what I meant. Lily and Violet cornered me earlier and asked me what I thought about you. Then they told me that Friday was your birthday and asked me to make it the best night of your life. (Misty blushes)
Misty: What?! I can’t believe they would do that! (She runs off)
Tracey: Uh, if you want me to go on a date with you, I could do…Oh I give up! (Nearby)
Misty: Unbelievable! How could they do that to Tracey? How could they do that to me?
Marcus: Misty, what a pleasure to see you!
Misty: Oh God! Please tell me that my sisters didn’t bribe you into going out with me for my birthday. (Marcus blushes) I think that they want me to have a date for Valentines and they’re asking any guy in my class.
Marcus: Huh? YES!
Misty: Hmm? Yes to what?
Marcus: YES! (Coughs) How despicable! I’m outraged that your sisters would do such a thing. Eh, just out of curiosity, when is your birthday?
Misty: This Friday.
Marcus: Valentines Day? Well, no wonder your sisters are eccentric about the whole thing. Girls do love Valentines Day and to add to that your 16th birthday is on the same day, it’s a win-win situation.
Misty: You too Marcus? You sound just like them. (Sighs) See you later! (A little later in Miss Prima’s class)
Marisa: (Thinking) Okay! This is your chance. Just ask him a simple question. You can do this without sounding like an idiot. (Aloud) Hey Tracey! I was wondering if you had any plans for Valentine’s Day.
Tracey: Huh?
Marisa: (Blushes) I was just curious and all. I was just checking with all of my friends to see what their plans were.
Tracey: Right now, all of my plans are up in the air. But it was strange. Earlier, Misty’s sisters came up to me and I think they were trying to get me to take Misty out on a date on Friday.
Marisa: Misty you say?
Tracey: Yeah! Lily told me that it was Misty’s 16th birthday and to make it the best night of her life. (Marisa gets up) Hey, where are you going?
Marisa: Oh...just outside for a moment. I'll be back in a few minutes. (Walks out of the classroom and corners Misty)
Misty: What the hell?
Marisa: Misty, my close, dear friend! What the hell are your sisters doing ruining my life?
Misty: What are you talking about?
Marisa: I heard through the grapevine that certain older sisters were playing a bit of matchmaker if you get my meaning.
Misty: Oh God, you found out! I’m so sorry Marisa. Violet and Lily are asking guys in our class to go out with me for my birthday. I've never felt so…cheap! I take it you found out about it. But don’t worry I’m not going to go out with Marcus.
Marisa: Marcus? (Clears throat) Oh, well, no problem. So what’s the plan for Friday?
Misty: I’m just going to enjoy a nice quiet evening at home. No dates! (At lunch)
Sakura: Oh Ash, could I speak to you outside, in private? There’s something I’ve wanted to discuss with you.
Ash: Sure thing! (They go outside the cafeteria) What’s up?
Sakura: Ash, you do realize that it’s Valentines Day in a couple of days right?
Ash: I guess.
Sakura: Well, as we all know, that is the most romantic day of the year.
Ash: It is?
Sakura: And I know there are some girls who want to do something special and…
Ash: Are you asking me out?
Sakura: WHAT?! No, not me! I just wanted to help out a friend of mine. I would like to help her anyway I can for this special day. Ash, you are the only one who can make this day complete!
Ash: So, you’re not trying to ask me out?
Sakura: Huh? Ah, forget it! You are truly the most hopeless cause. (She walks off)
Ash: Wait Sakura, were you making a pass at me or not? I can’t tell!
Sakura: (Shouting) IDIOT!
Ash: I’ll never understand girls! (Back at the table)
Marisa: There you are! Hey, what’s the matter? (Sakura groans) Oh, you talked to Ash about something complicated, didn’t you?
Sakura: He’s such an idiot!
Marisa: Come on Sakura! Walk with me, talk with me. (Outside)
Sakura: I was trying to get Ash to ask Misty out for Friday. But I guess that wasn't going to happen.
Marisa: Don't do that. Her sisters are already trying to hook Misty up with dates. They've already asked Marcus and Tracey. But Misty doesn't want to go out with anyone on her birthday and just wants to spend the day by herself. Though it was a kind gesture to try and get Ash to step up and ask her out. Too bad it resulted the way it did.
Sakura: I have an idea. How about we just go over to Misty’s house on Friday, just the three of us? Have some quality girl time and such and away from boys!
Marisa: You’re still a little steamed about talking to Ash aren’t you?
Sakura: It’s like talking to a God-damned brick wall. He thought I was coming on to him. Who could honestly like an idiot like him?
Marisa: Anabel and Macey...oh and Misty!
Sakura: Back on the subject, we shouldn’t let her spend the night alone. We could just come over as a bit of a surprise.
Marisa: Well, I guess I like that idea. Alright, I’m in.
Narrator: Finally, Friday comes and the whole school was up on the whole Valentines Day. (Slurred) Meanwhile, I am stuck at home with a bottle of tequila, a box of half-eaten chocolates, and a DVD of Full Metal Alchemist…I can dream of that hunk Edward Elric!
Winona: Oh my God, these flowers are beautiful! Oh Wallace, thank you so much.
Wallace: Huh? (Thinking) I didn’t get her those flowers. Someone's trying to one-up me! Uh-oh, too long of a pause. Say something stupid! (Aloud) Happy Valentines Day sweetheart! (She hugs him) Glad you love them dear. (Nearby)
Jackson: I hope Winona got my flowers.
Marina: Oh Jackson! (She gives a card) This is for you, Happy Valentines!
Jackson: Thank you Marina! (Brock runs up)
Brock: Happy Valentines indeed! My dear Marina, words alone can’t say the whole thing about you. How about we go on a little date tonight?
Marina: PERVERT! (She throws a book at him)
Drew: Shot down again I see.
Brock: Oh come on Drew, no girl can resist the Brock charm. Most of them are just playing hard to get! Besides, I bet you don’t have a single…(Drew opens his locker and a bunch of cards fly out) You suck!
Marisa: Uh Tracey, I got you a card. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Tracey: Oh you didn’t have to!
Marisa: (Blushes) Oh well, you know! I like giving all of my friends Valentine cards.
Marcus: That’s funny, I don’t remember…
Marisa: (Pulls out a card) To ALL of my friends!
Marcus: Whatever you say!
Tracey: Thanks again Marisa! I'll see you in class (He walks away)
Marcus: How cute! (Singing) Tracey and Marisa sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G…(Marisa slaps him)
Marisa: I’m sorry Marcus, what was it that you were singing?
Marcus: Just working on Les Mis!
Marisa: That’s what I thought!
Misty: Hey Ash, I got you this card!
Ash: Hey thanks a lot Misty.
Sakura: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISTY!
Ash: It’s your birthday today?
Sakura: You bet it is and it’s her sweet 16 no less.
Misty: (Whispering) What are you doing?
Sakura: (Whispering) You want a great birthday don’t you? So just follow my lead. So like I was saying…Hey, he’s gone!
Misty: Thanks Sakura, but its best that he doesn’t know yet. It just doesn’t seem like the right time to let him know how I really feel.
Sakura: How will you know if it’s the right time?
Misty: I’ll know.
Sakura: What the hell are you talking about? It’s the perfect time! It’s Valentines Day and your birthday! Romance is all around you!
Misty: It’s complicated! Sorry, but I’m going to go now. (At lunch)
Daisy: Misty, I have a friend I would like you to meet!
Noland: Yo!
Daisy: His name is Noland and he wants to take you out tonight. (Sakura gasps)
Marisa: (Whispering) Relax! Misty’s smart enough to not go out with that moron!
Misty: No thank you Daisy! I told you, I don’t want you to do any kind of hookups for me tonight. (They walk away) My God, they are getting on my last nerves. I hate to think what they have in store for tonight. (Marisa and Sakura giggle) What are you two laughing about?
Sakura: Oh nothing! (That night at Misty’s house)
Daisy: Okay, what are you two pipsqueaks doing here?
Marisa: Hey! Don’t call me a pipsqueak!
Daisy: No problem, nark!
Marisa: DON’T CALL ME THAT EITHER! (Misty comes out)
Misty: What are you two doing here?
Sakura: Well, we came to the conclusion that we shouldn’t let you stay at home by yourself on your birthday. So, we decided to come here.
Marisa: You know, just us girls for the night.
Misty: That sounds like a great idea. Come on in!
Daisy: So you'd rather hang out with your loser friends than go out with Noland?
Marisa: It just means Misty has common sense.
Daisy: Well I'm going out on my date. You three try not overdo it with your dorky plans.
Narrator: After Misty’s older sisters left the house, the three girls got right to celebrating. They gave presents, listened to music, talked about boys in school, ate, and watched some television. About an hour passed, and the three were sitting down wondering what they should do next.
Marisa: I guess we did all that we could do within the last hour. I forgot how short our attention spans are at this age.
Misty: Well it was a good shot for a birthday party.
Sakura: This party is just getting started. We could always go see a movie.
Misty: Really? That would be great! But wait, movies cost about $10 and I don’t have that much on me.
Marisa: Don’t you worry Misty, this one’s on me. I’ve got enough for the both of us and for snacks at the theater.
Sakura: What are we waiting for? (A little later in front of the theaters)
Marisa: Hmm...lots of lousy titles. Ooh, this looks good.
Sakura: John Cusack, that's perfect!
Misty: Okay. Hey, it's Ash and Brock!
Marisa: (Whispering) Did you set them up to come here?
Sakura: (Whispering) Not at all! I didn't know they were going to be here tonight! (Ash and Brock walk up)
Misty: What are you doing here?
Ash: I promised Brock that I would treat him to a movie, since he was unable to find a date for Valentines Day.
Brock: THEY’RE ALL PLAYING HARD TO GET!
Marisa: Sure they are. Well we’re celebrating Misty’s birthday and part of that is treating her to a movie.
Misty: Why don’t we all see something together?
Ash: I’m up for that! And it just so happens that Adam Sandler's new movie came out today!
Marisa: How they allow a movie with so much fart joking premier on Valentines Day, I will never know. Besides, we’re in the mood for a romantic comedy. And it just so happens there’s a new one with John Cusack!
Brock: Oh you girls and the romance! Okay, we’ll settle it with a vote. All those in favor for the romantic comedy, say aye.
Marisa: Aye!
Sakura: Aye!
Brock: And all those in favor for fart jokes, say aye. Aye!
Ash: Aye! Well Misty, it’s all down to you. What do we see? (Five minutes later in the theatre)
Marisa: Why Misty? Why did you go with the fart jokes?
Misty: Sorry about that, I was just…
Sakura: Agreeing with whatever Ash said. So predictable!
Misty: Ssh…Keep your voice down!
Sakura: Don’t worry Misty the boys are getting snacks from the snack bar. Besides, Ash is too oblivious to see you have feelings for him. (Marcus walks up)
Marcus: Marisa, what are you doing here? I’d figure you would be in some romance flick for Valentines Day.
Marisa: Ask Misty! (Misty gives a nervous laugh) Why are you here? I thought you would never see another Adam Sandler movie since Click.
Marcus: WORST MOVIE EVER! But everyone makes mistakes when it comes to making movies. I figure this should be a funnier movie. So Misty, what brings you to the movie tonight?
Misty: Sakura and Marisa are treating me to a movie for my birthday. Do you want to join us?
Marcus: I thought you wouldn’t ask! (Ash and Brock sit down with a bunch of snacks) Got enough food there?
Ash: Hell no, this should only last us through the previews.
Narrator: As the movie began, the theater grew dark and that was when certain moves can be made. Throughout the movie, Marcus kept trying to put his arm around Misty. But every chance he got, Misty was looking, so Marcus tried to play it cool. During the movie, Brock fell fast asleep with all the snacks in his lap. Once he relaxed his leg, some hot popcorn fell on Marisa’s lap. After that happened she punched Brock in the back of the head and he quickly woke up. The movie was almost over when Marcus decided to have a little Valentines luck. He was going to give Misty a kiss on the cheek. As he leaned in, Misty ducked to sneeze and Marcus ended up kissing Ash's cheek. Marcus noticed he kissed Ash and quickly jumped back into his seat before anyone could see.
Ash: Huh? What was that? (Wipes his cheek) Must have been a stray spitball.
Narrator: What an idiot! Let's skip ahead to the end of the movie.
Sakura: What’d you guys think of the movie?
Brock: (Yawns) It could have been better.
Marisa: Yeah well, I’m never sitting next to you again in a movie theater Brock. You’re lucky I didn’t shove a wad of popcorn down your throat.
Marcus: (Grumbling) I was so close! I was so close!
Marisa: Close to what?
Marcus: (Blushes) Nothing! (Thinking) At least no one saw me kiss Ash. (Outside the theater)
Brock: (Yawns) I’m going to walk on home now. I’ll see you all in school Monday. (He walks off)
All: Bye Brock. (Sakura, Marisa, and Marcus walk across the street)
Misty: Um Ash, thanks for the great night.
Ash: Why are you thanking me?
Misty: Well it isn’t just you. I mean you, Brock, and the others made it a great night so I wanted to thank you.
Ash: Oh, you’re welcome. Um, Happy Birthday Misty! (She blushes) I’ll see you Monday. (He walks away)
Misty: (Thinking) One day, I’ll tell him how I really feel. For now, I can admire him from a distance.
