Quinquagesimus Quartus: July 6, 2008: Qualibet
Theme for this week: Et tu, 'q'
qualibet (also qualubet)
Definition: [adv]: By any road that pleases, wherever one likes; no matter how, somehow or other; anywhere; anyhow
Sententia: Achilles crispans gladium qualibet in campo pugnae ruit, caesurus omnes in semita.
Achilles brandishing a sword rushes wherever he likes/anywhere in the field of battle, about to kill all in [his] path
The definition today comes from the Oxford Latin Dictionary, having been consulted in a library and duly copied (and now cited!). And since Perseus is now working again, I can tell you that this word is rather rare, but surprisingly found twice in Catullus poems in the syllabus, 76 and 40.
NB: Bold and underline == macron
