Octogesimus Primus: August 9, 2008: Manto
Theme for this week: No theme! It's the weekend, and if you are new to the LVD (Latin word of the day) I have a theme for each week, and then the weekends may or may not follow the theme from the previous week.
manto, mantare, mantavi, mantatus
Definition: to remain, wait
Sententia: Manta in Mantua, Roma enim est periculosa. Si eas, verear ne milites te noceant!
Wait in Mantua, for Rome is dangerous. If you should go, I would fear that the soldiers may harm you!
This word is very similar to Mantua, the birthplace of Vergil! Other than that, it's not used very often. But its link to Vergil makes it cool, no matter how rare it is. =D
NB: Bold and underline == macron
