Centesimus Duodetricesimus: February 22, 2009: Paratragoedo
paratragoedo, paratragoedare
Definition: to talk theatrically, to use a mock-tragic or burlesque style
Sententia: In Haud Contumeliosissima Fabula in Toto Orbe Terrarum, hospites paratragoedaverunt dum censuram fabularum machina incitaverunt.
In The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World, the hosts talked theatrically while they urged on censorship of plays by means of a machine.
This week's word is in honor of the Knight of One Axe at TJ, a night of one act plays if you are not familiar with it. This word is actually a hapax legomenon, a word found only once, with its one occurrence in Plautus' play Pseudolus. It comes from the Greek word ' παρατραγωδέω' (paratragôideô, if the Greek alphabet doesn't work for you).
