Duodecimus: July 1, 2007: Amarus
amarus, amara, amarum
Definition: bitter, brackish, pungent; harsh, shrill; sad, calamitous; ill-natured, caustic, SARDONIC
Sentence(s): Amaro riso fata est, " Ita vero, omnia habes. Nunc, quid faciam? In manu vitam, libertatem, felicitatem, dignitatem tenes, atqui teneo nihil nisi micas gloriolae. Vale--utinam numquam te iterum videam."
She said with a bitter laugh, "Yes, you have everything. Now, what am I to do? You hold in your hand life, liberty, happiness, and dignity, and yet I have nothing except the crumbs of a little glory. Goodbye--I wish that I never see you again."
Note: This is rather cool just for the English derivation of the word "sardonic". If you haven't looked at it yet, you can at http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sardonic (it's the derivation from the top definition).
