Quadragesimus Primus: June 23, 2008: Caeruleus
Theme for this week: Colors
It seems to me that colors are rather neglected adjectives in Ecce Romani. Aside from the teams in the chariot race (russati, etc. if I remember correctly), I don't recall any colors at all. And so, presented to you are various colors:
caeruleus, -a, -um (also caerulus)
Definition: blue, dark blue, dark green, dusky, azure, (neuter plural substantive) the sea
Sententia: Dum tempestas saeviebat, tam caerulae erant aquae maris ut apparerent atrae.
While the storm was raging, the waters of the sea were so blue that they appeared black.
This word is found in Ovid in the end of Daedalus and Icarus and in Catullus 36, if you were wondering.
NB: Bold and underline == macron
