Margery Phillips Hon. AIA Seattle

A Seattle native, Margery Phillips (1916-2014) studied interior design at the University of Washington.  She started out as a freelance journalist, working as Home Fashion Editor for The Seattle Times among other publications.  She had a 25-year career with the Times, writing about residential design.  Working with an AIA Seattle committee, she originated the popular SeattleTimes/AIA Home of the Month program in 1954.  The featured architect-designed residences, selected by the AIA Seattle Home of the Month Cmmittee, regularly drew hundreds of visitors.

King County Executive Randy Revelle appointed Margery to serve on King County Landmarks Commission, and Governor Booth Gardner and Governor Mike Lowry appointed her to the Washington State Advisory Board for Historic Preservation.  In 1998 the Museum of History and Industry honored her as a History Maker.
