Jeffrey Karl Ochsner FAIA

Jeffrey Karl Ochsner FAIA, Professor and Chair (1996-2002) of the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington, received his architectural education at Rice University.  He taught at Rice 1984-87 while directing his own firm in Houston, with a portfolio of architecture, urban design, and preservation projects in Houston and Galveston.  His design for a house in New Mexico received an AIA Houston Design Award in 1984.

At the UW, he has taught in the areas of architectural design, urban design, historic preservation, and architectural history.  He twice won the Lionel Pries Prize, given by students in the College of Architecture & Urban Planning for teaching excellence.  From 1988-1996 he coordinated the CAUP Lecture Series, and he served on the ARCADE editorial board 1988-90.

The record of his productive scholarship includes H. H. Richardson: Complete Architectural Works (1982), Shaping Seattle Architecture: A Historical Guide to the Architects (University of Washington Press, 1994; second ed. 2014), which he edited and co-authored as part of the 100th anniversary of the founding of AIA in Seattle and Washington; Distant Corner: Seattle Architects and the Legacy of H. H. Richardson, with Dennis Alan Andersen (UW Press, January 2003); and articles in JAE: Journal of Architectural Education, Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Pacific Northwest Quarterly, ARCADE, and other professional and popular publications.
