Charles Pearson FAIA

Charles Pearson FAIA (BArch UW 1931, d. 1994) engaged with Tacoma colleagues in community service activities through both his architecture practice and his personal volunteer efforts. Charles (known as "Chuck"), along with Charles Lea and John Richards, began their architectural office in 1937. Lea, Pearson and Richards became a highly successful practice, for decades the largest office in Tacoma and involved in projects across the state.

Professionally, Chuck along with others took part in the founding of AIA SW Washington, and served as its third President in 1958. He served as President of AIA Washington Council in 1962 and was elected to the College of Fellows of the AIA in 1973.

In addition to his professional involvement, he liberally gave of his time to better his community: as President of Downtown Tacoma Rotary in 1954 and as President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1969.

AIA SW Washington presents the Charles Pearson Award to individuals "serving in the spirit exemplified by Charles Pearson during his professional career."
