Daniel Friedman FAIA

The 2001 election of Daniel Friedman to the AIA College of Fellows recognized his achievements to advance design education and scholarship.  

He received his Master of Architecture degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and his PhD and Master of Science degrees at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Arts, where he completed his doctoral dissertation on the history and design by Louis Kahn of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla.   

He served as Director of the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and as Director of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati 1990-2002, prior to his term as Dean of the College of Built Environments and Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington. 

He served as President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and of the National Academy of Environmental Design, and chaired the AIA national Design Health Leadership Group.
