Daniel Williams FAIA

Daniel Williams arrived in Seattle in January 2000 as a principal and partner with Jones + Jones Architects and Landscape Architects, and in 2003 established Daniel Williams ARCHITECT.

Here he continues the career he conducted in Florida for more than 25 years, as an urban and regional planner and a community activist. There, as a driving force in the protection of the Everglades, he changed law and policy, particularly relating to land and water use.

His effort has had national as well as local impact, extended through his service and leadership with the AIA Committee on the Environment. Projects of his Florida firm received AIA Honor Awards for Urban and Regional Design in 1999 and in 2000.

His environmental focus has incorporated both applications in design practice and a research component: at the U. of Miami and the U. of Florida, he conducted research on watershed planning that impacted land and building codes and helped change the local planning process. He speaks and publishes widely: his work on "Sustainable Watershed Planning" appeared in Metropolis, and he has presented seminars at conventions and meetings of AIA and numerous other design and building industry assemblies.

In Seattle, he continues his study and efforts to integrate natural systems functions within urban patterns, and at this presentation he will address current projects locally and elsewhere, as well as earlier work. His elevation to the College of Fellows in 1998 recognized the significance of his career in helping to expand public perception of the architect's role in environmental stewardship.
