STEVIE WONDER IS BORN

Stevie Wonder has been recording music for almost 60 years! At the age of 11 he was signed to Motown Records by Berry Gordy. Wonder brought ten pop chart number one hits to Hitsville, USA (Motown) including Superstition, I Wish, Isn't She Lovely, For Once in my Life, I Just Called to Say I Love You (which won an Oscar in 1985), If You Really Love Me, and You Are the Sunshine of My Life. In 2015, he did Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, and it is so fun to sing along!

Wonder is the only recording artist to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for three albums in a row (1973, 1974, 1976). In 1975, Paul Simon won the Album of the Year award, and in his acceptance speech thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing a record that year, so that he had a chance to win.

Motown Record Company was established in 1960 by Berry Gordy, and continues to sign artists and release albums to this day. Motown introduced us to The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Jackson Five, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and Rick James. The name Motown comes from the nickname for Detroit - Motor Town.

Stevie Wonder received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama in 2014.
