John Singer Sargent is considered to be one of the best portrait painters of all time. He was a master with both oil paint and watercolors. We are so lucky to live close to two of the best collections of Sargent works in the world: The The Museum of Fine Arts and The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
The Museum of Fine Arts is home to the largest and most diverse collection of his works, and many are on view on the second floor of the Arts of the Americas Wing, including The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit. Years ago, the Boit family donated the blue and white vases to the MFA, and they are displayed on each side of the painting. You can watch a video about the painting here.
Isabella Stewart Gardener was friends with Sargent, so her museum is filled with his works. The most famous is the painting El Jaleo. You can explore this and many of his other works at Google Arts & Culture.
