Born on January 10, 1903, Jocelyn Barbara Hepworth in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England

Died on May 20, 1975 in St. Ives, Cornwall, England at the age of 72, became a Dame in 1965

She was a Modern artist sculptor, and was one of the only women of this time to achieve fame

Hepworth married fellow artist Ben Nicholson in 1938, and they had triplets!

Barbara Hepworth was famous for sculpting abstract art out of wood, stone, and later in her career, bronze. She lived in a costal town in England, and her works were inspired by the land and sea around her. You can learn more about Pelagos in this SmartHistory video. This video shows Hepworth carving her sculptures in 1953, and this video is an interview with her three years before she died.
