I encourage you to learn more about Dr. Jonas Salk and the Salk Institute, which continues to develop vaccines and find cures for diseases. 

The Franklin Roosevelt Library has more information about Roosevelt's polio diagnosis, his recovery methods, and how adapting his life after paralysis made him more resilient and determined during times of crisis.  HBO made a movie about his recovery, called Warm Springs.  

You can visit Franklin Roosevelt State Park Pine Mountain, which is over 9,000 acres and is Georgia's largest state park.  Near the park is The Little White House that Roosevelt lived in when visiting Warm Springs. There is a great photo gallery of this State Historic Site.

Roosevelt became an advocate for disability rights, and founded The March of Dimes.  The organization now focuses on supporting families to ensure healthy pregnancies.
