TC Cannon (1946 - 1978)

Born Tommy Wayne Cannon on September 27, 1946, in Lawton, OK

Died on May 8, 1978 in Santa Fe, NM

His Kiowa Indian Tribe of Oklahoma name Pai-doung-a-day means “One Who Stands in the Sun”

Went to art school at the Institute of American Indian Arts, and served in the Army during Vietnam

TC Cannon sadly died in a car accident at the age of 31. He was a promising young artist who painted his Native American culture in a modern way. In 2018, The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, hosted a retrospective of his work. This exhibition traveled to The Gilcrease Museum, in Tulsa, Oklahoma in last 2018, and then to Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, in New York City in early 2019.
