His first wife, Peggy Guggenheim was a wealthy woman who loved to collect art and was friends with many artists of her time. Her home in Venice, Italy was turned into a gallery of her art, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. You'll remember that she is the person who commissioned Jackson Pollock to paint Mural which we studied together. Her uncle Solomon Guggenheim founded the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
