LCMS Paw Prints Newsletter

Dear LCMS Panther Families,

Our Panthers have had a very busy week! Congratulations to the following groups: 

• Our Jazz Band Performed on last Thursday night and received Straight Superior ratings from every judge! They played amazingly well and the judges had many compliments.

Friday night, we had students performing solos and ensembles from 5-9pm.

Saturday, we had students performing solos and ensembles from 9-5:15pm.

We had 172 student participants over the course of Friday night and Saturday. All of these students started practicing and preparing for this event back in October/November, so they've put in a lot of hard work! 

All of our students received one of the top two ratings (superior is the highest, and excellent is the second highest.) We will be passing out judge's sheets and medals for 8 excellent and 162 superiors!!

• Our Chorus 3 students sang beautifully at MPA yesterday. They earned Superior, Excellent, Excellent on stage and Superior in Sightreading with rhythm and 2-part sight reading. 

• Last weekend was the SCPS History Fair. Congratulations to the following students who were recognized at the awards ceremony.

• Congratulations to the following students for having their artwork selected for the 38th annual Lake Mary- Heathrow Festival of the Arts. Their artwork will be displayed in the SCPS Student Art Tent March 8th and 9th at Colonial Town Park. Ms. Dean and Ms. Calabro are so proud of our amazing student artists for their hard work.

Lastly, we have had a few situations in the past week where I have been made aware of parents recording phone calls with teachers and administrators. Please be aware that this is illegal. Pursuant to Florida Statutes § 934.03 and § 934.04, all parties involved in a conversation must give consent before the conversation may be recorded. In other words, those wishing to record private conversations must obtain consent from all parties involved before recording. Violating the consent rule in Florida may result in felony criminal charges. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Gradventure Update 3/7/2025

Ticket deadline has been extended until the Friday before Spring Break (March 14th). Please be aware that per Universal Guidelines, Chaperones must be 23 years of age or older, unless they are employed by the school of attendance (LCMS).

Unfortunately, not every student has the financial means to attend Gradventure. We are reaching out to the community to help ensure that all students, regardless of their financial situation, have the opportunity to be part of this special experience. We are asking for donations in quantities of $25, $50, $75, etc. up to the full cost of a ticket ($175). Donations will go directly toward covering the cost of tickets, transportation, and t-shirts for the students in need. 

Your support will make it possible for these students to participate in this unforgettable event, helping them feel included and valued. 8th grade Dance

Our 8th Grade Dance committee is working hard to make this year’s events memorable for the students! The PTSA wants to continue celebrating the students’ significant accomplishment of completing middle school, as we have done in years past. However, it takes a lot of people to make this happen, and they need more volunteers to help. Specifically, they are looking for people to join the decorations and fundraising committees. PTSA will also be looking for 6th and 7th grade parent volunteers to chaperone the dance, as 8th grade parents traditionally do not serve as chaperones on that special evening.

It's important to note that once these 8th grade parents step down, there will be no one left to take over the reins for future events. If you’re interested in getting involved—especially if you’ll have an 8th grader in the next few years and want to learn more about what to expect—please reach out to 8thgradelcms@gmail.com 

8th Grade Spirit Week May 12th - 16th

8th Grade Spirit Week takes place in the days between the 8th grade dance and Gradventure, where both staff and students celebrate their successful years at LCMS by dressing up! The PTSA is asking for students' input on what they’d like their dress-up days to be. This week, your student had the opportunity to scan a QR code in their 4th period class to cast their vote.

The Spring Rising 5k-10k-Kids' Fun Run is on March 22nd. The Oviedo Run Club is able to help the school's garden with modest funds if your school builds the largest team of runners or volunteers.
