Dear LCMS Panther Families,
This past week's weather fiasco has brought a couple of issues to my attention. While our bus loop entrance is on 419, we share our main campus entrance with the surrounding neighborhoods. I have been made aware that some parents are parking along local neighborhood streets and having their students walk to their car at dismissal in an effort to avoid the car line. What this is doing is blocking the streets and causing a safety hazard in the neighborhood. If your child must get in your vehicle to go home, they are a car rider and they need to stay on the car ramp and wait for you there.
Please note the button added above with a link to the Red Apple Dining Menus. If there is other information you would like to see added to the weekly newsletter, please let me know.
Have a great weekend!

Did your child participate in one of the SCPS Summer Programs (Let's Read, Seminole!, ScribED, or Math Quest)? If so, be sure to turn your log into the front office by Friday, Sept 2 to be entered in the District prize drawing!
For security reasons, we are not allowed to accept any items in the front office to be dropped off for students, including homework, lunches, backpacks, money, sports equipement, etc.
No student check-out after 3:30 pm (2:30 pm on Wednesday).
Thank you for your understanding and for planning ahead.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
On October 21, Seminole County Public School’s Health Services in collaboration with the Seminole County Health Department will be conducting state mandated health screenings for all sixth graders at Lawton Chiles Middle School Middle School. Students will be screened for scoliosis (curvature of the spine); growth and development including height, weight, BMI (body mass index); vision; and hearing. Screening schedule can be found on SCPS Website – Health Services page.
Please complete the health screening consent form located by clicking the link below NO LATER THAN October 7.
2022-2023 Middle School Screening Consent Form
PLEASE NOTE:
-Those children who wear glasses or contact lenses must wear them for the vision screenings if they participate.
-Scoliosis screening is done in a private setting with at least 2 school board nurses present. The student is asked to stand straight while the nurse looks at the shoulders, hips, and back for any abnormalities or asymmetry. The student may be asked to lift the shirt to mid back level for view of hips if clothing is obstructing. The student will then be asked to bend forward and down about 90 degrees while hanging arms and head down. This allows the spine to elongate and the nurse to view the spine for straightness and the back for symmetry. Any abnormal findings will be sent in writing via mail to the parent/guardian.
If you choose to exempt your child from the screenings or do not complete the required consent form by the above deadline, your child will not participate in the schools scheduled health screenings. Please remember the importance of an annual wellness visit with your healthcare provider to review the child’s growth and development, nutrition, safety, and emotional as well as physical well-being.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Waller at megan_waller@scps.k12.fl.us or 407-871-7037.
Thank you,
Dr. Melissa Laudani

Our school behavior expectations this year have been updated to PAWS:
Panthers Always:
Practice Safety
Accept Responsibility
Work Hard
Show Respect
Student can earn PAWS bucks from their teachers for exhibiting these behaviors. Ask your student about the Teacher Rewards menus in their classrooms for students to cash in their bucks. The PBIS Store in the Growl Grill will be opening soon with another opportunity for students to cash in their buck.
Please view this video from our PBIS Coach, Mrs. Higley, with more information.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) is a progress monitoring tool that will be administered three times
per year to track your student’s progress in learning the Benchmarks of Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards
throughout this school year. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your student will participate in the first
administration (PM1) of the Grade 6-8 Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Reading and
Mathematics assessment[s] on Aug 31/Sept 1 and Sept 7 & 8. Your student’s results from PM1 are for informational
purposes only, and your student’s school will provide you with information about how to access the results after testing is
completed.
FAST assessments are computer-adaptive tests taken on a computer or tablet. The questions get easier or more difficult
depending on how the student responds, and each student will see different questions from a common item bank. Each test
attempt (PM1, PM2, and PM3) will present 35–40 items that will cover the entire test “blueprint,” meaning students will
encounter items representative of the standards within the subject or grade level. Students may bring a book to read if they
complete the assessment prior to the end of the session. For more information on the test design, please visit
https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/assessments/k-12-student-assessment/best/. If you or your student would like to
interact with the online testing platform or review FAST Reading [and Mathematics] sample items at home, sample test
materials are available at https://flfast.org/families.html.
If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact Dr. Pagnotti at 407-871-7013 or pagnotjz@scps.k12.fl.us .
For more information about the FAST program, please visit the portal at FLFAST.org.
Thank you for supporting your student and encouraging him or her to do his or her best during this test administration.
Sincerely,
Dr. Melissa Laudani
Your LCMS PTSA has started their “No Fuss Fundraiser”. They decided that instead of selling cookies, candles or other “stuff” through companies that keep a percentage of the money, they are simply asking for donations of which 100% will go to making improvements on campus, including additional security cameras and the window vinyls pictured below for the Growl Grill windows on the bus loop. Donate today following the directions provided on the flyer below.
