Dear LCMS Panther Families,
The next couple of weeks will be busy as we get into school pictures, tryouts for our fall sports, and our first round of FAST testing. Please be sure to mark these events on your calendar. Information on pictures and tryouts can be found below. Bell Schedules for the FAST testing will be released next week.
Just a couple of reminders:
ID cards are required to tap on/off all school busses, enter campus buildings, pay for food in our Growl Grill restaurant. Also, our early release students use them to check out before they leave for the day. Please remind your students to have them every day.
Our big school fundraiser starts Thursday. Your child should already have brought home the permission slip for you to complete and send in. If not, please find the form HERE. The money raised will be used for campus safety improvements as well as additional laptops for classrooms. Please help us raise as much money as possible!
Please be aware that the car line in the morning is only for dropping off. If you would like to wait in your car until supervision starts at 9 am or need to finish a discussion with your student, please park in the parking lot until you are ready to drop off. Then, pull in the line and drop your child off on the car ramp.
Similarly, the car line is the only place on campus that students are to be picked up at dismissal. Do not ask your child to walk into the parking lot or to get into your car along Sanctuary Drive. Help us encourage our Panthers to Practice Safety!
Congratulations to our Yearbook staff on the launch of the Panther Pride Press, our student-written newsletter. It can be found at the link below. It will always be linked above and on the student page of the LCMS Website. https://bit.ly/BacktoSchoolPantherPrideNewsletter
Don't forget, Panthers always:

SCPS Families received information from our Department of School Safety & Security which shared updates due to new legislation regarding doors and gates that will require some procedural changes. Our district has already had many of these safety procedures in place for years, however, there are a few changes that you can expect to see this year to maintain the highest level of safety and security and comply with new legislation. These measures will extend to any time a student is on campus.
Impacts at Lawton Chiles Middle School
Drop-off/pick-up: Doors will open on the car ramp and the bus ramp at 9 am. Please do not drop off your child before that time. Staff members will be stationed at both points so that students can enter the school. Please do not drop off or pick up students anywhere other than the front car ramp. See the pictures below for specifics.
Access to Campus: ONLY authorized individuals will be granted access through staffed entry points. Students will be given lanyards for their ID cards and should always wear them. These cards will be used to gain access to buildings on campus. If you are visiting the front office, please ring the doorbell and wait. You will be asked to explain the purpose of your visit before the door is opened.
Events and Activities: Specific entry points will be designated and staffed for events outside regular hours. If a student is participating in a club or sport, that sponsor or coach will meet the students in the courtyard in front of their building and will escort them to their classroom/practice location.
These changes are not only important for remaining in compliance with Florida law but ensuring a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors. We would like to ask for your patience and cooperation during this transition.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out via email at school_safety@scps.k12.fl.us.
