The 2nd quarter starts Monday, but the BMAs (Benchmard Assessments) that students will be taking will go into the 1st quarter grades. Please be sure to click the link above to see the schedule for next week.
We are aware that several of our families were severely impacted by Hurricane Ian and are continuing to recover. Please do not hesitate to reach out for anything you may need.
Have a great weekend!

Yesterday, students attended a presentation by Dr. Sameer Hinduja, an SCPS alumnus who is a Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice for the College of Design and Social Inquiry at Florida Atlantic University. His main work focuses on cyberbullying and safe social media use. Dr. Hinduja will also meet with a small group of student leaders on each campus "to inspire, equip, and empower youth to spearhead creative initiatives on their campus, in their cities, or on the Internet to promote positive interactions and behaviors, online and offline".
This presentation helps middle school students:
• Measure their usage of the most popular devices, sites, and apps with their classmates
• Learn how cyberbullying can occur via these devices and in these environments
• Understand the emotions that are felt when one is victimized
• Consider relatable and true-story examples, and role-play what to do when harassed or humiliated
• Understand how who you "friend" and “follow” on social media and similar sites is a reflection of you
• See how easy it is to track individuals because of their digital footprint
• Understand how ill-advised postings have led to denied opportunities for many kids
• Learn why the taking and sending of semi-nude or nude images is a bad idea, regardless of what the law says
• Discover how best to lock down one's profile page and develop a positive reputation in cyberspace
• Be inspired by other kids who are positively changing their school and community by promoting the responsible use of technology
He also provided these handouts for us to share with you:

Come run with us!!
The link is below, but you MUST sign up as part of the Lawton Chiles Middle School Team in order for us to get credit for our team. Here's information on why we want to have a team together. This money will go directly to the LCMS Sports Program.
SCHOOL GRANT FOR LARGEST TEAMS-
Every year, the race offers three $500 grants for the largest elementary, middle, and high-school teams. But there is ONE caveat: the minimum team size needed to be running is 25 people. They have had teams as large as 40 people before, so this is no big deal :) We're going for BIG here, so wrangle up a few more friends to come walk through history with you!!
Remember, students still in school pay "your age" as the registration fee through October 18! (If you are 5 years old, the registration is $5 through October 18th).
To reward students for reaching their fundraising goal in the No Fuss Fundraiser, PTSA treated all students to a Popsicle Dance Party during all lunches on Friday. Great job, Panthers!
The middle and high school magnet application period is now open. Apply today for the 2023-2024 school year! https://www.scps.k12.fl.us/district/departments/assignment-access/high-school-magnets.stml
As you start cleaning out your closets to get ready for the holidays, please consider us for donations of white Christmas lights for our Spring Showcase. Donations can be dropped off in the Front Office to Dr. Taylor's attention.
For security reasons, we are not allowed to accept any items in the front office to be dropped off for students, including homework, lunches, backpacks, money, sports equipement, etc.
No student check-out after 3:30 pm (2:30 pm on Wednesday).
Thank you for your understanding and for planning ahead.
