SCPS Community Involvement is excited to be returning to Lawton Chiles Middle School - Seminole County Public Schools!
We'll be bringing "Living on My Own" to selected students at Lawton Chiles Middle School - Seminole County Public Schools on Wed, 2/22 and Thu, 2/23 with our partners UF IFAS Extension Seminole County and the support of business partners, community members, LCMS PTSA, and volunteers like you! This financial literacy program offers students a view into their futures and the financial decisions they will make. We have all the information you will need to support the students in the "Living on My Own City" during the real-life simulation portion of this program. Mr. Borosky's 8th grade Lightbulb students will be participating in this event.
Volunteers are needed to make this event possible! Consider joining us to share information with the students, to gather strategies to discuss financial literacy with your own students, and to see what happens during the simulation in the "Living on My Own" city!

Your student will be participating in the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) for Mathematics or for Reading January 23-26 (see dates above). The FAST assessment is a progress monitoring tool administered three times per year to track your student’s progress in learning the Benchmarks of Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards throughout this school year. Your student’s results from PM2 are for informational purposes only. Results will be available within 24-72 hours upon completion in the Florida Department of Education’s (FDOE) Family portal.
You can access the FDOE’s Family Portal via the secure Skyward Family Access.
Click on District Links (located in the upper right corner of screen)
Click on Florida State Assessment Portal (Student Name) link
If you have multiple students, each student will have their own link to the portal

Dear LCMS Parent or Guardian,
Beginning on January 31st , students in grades 6 through 8 will have the opportunity to participate in two important feedback surveys.
Students will participate in a short perception survey called the Snapshot Survey. The results of the Snapshot Survey will be collected and analyzed by a local data analytics firm and utilized to create a school report card, called the Snapshot Report, that will feature student perceptions as well as other school data points. Students will rate how likely they are to recommend their school to other students and describe in their own words what they like most about their school and what they would like to improve about their schools.
Students will participate in the 5Essentials Survey. This survey, developed by the University of Chicago Consortium on Chicago School Research, asks students about their experiences in school. Having direct information from students is critical for developing plans to improve schools.
Students’ identities on all surveys will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions. To review the survey questions, please go to https://www.scps.k12.fl.us/district/departments/assessment-accountability/5essentials/
If you DO NOT want your student to participate, fill out the information below and ask your student to return this sheet to his or her teacher.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Dr. Melissa Laudani, Principal
