Dear LCMS Panther Families,
Thank you all for an amazing first week of school!
I enjoyed going around to all of the classrooms this week and visiting with students at lunch. Students were engaged in hands-on activities in classes and were already making new friends in our Growl Grill restaurant.
This week includes lots of information about how you and your children can get involved - tryouts for Boys & Girls Volleyball, Cheer and Dance as well as an updated listing of clubs for students. PTSA, Dividend Coffee, SAC, and Teach In for the adults. We can't wait to see all of you on campus. It takes all of us .
All students should have their ID card by the end of the day today. Please remind your child that they are to wear them at all times. This is now part of what they wear to school every day. If it is in their pocket, it can fall out and get lost. If it's in their backpack, they can't get to it to open the door. They need to have it on. If your child loses their ID card, they need to notify their teacher (1st period if it is when they arrive or the current class if they lose it on campus). A one time replacement will be provided. After that, there will be a charge.
Also, a reminder about dress code: Crop tops are not appropriate for school. According to SCPS Dress Code, a student's midriff should be covered at all times. Please see the information below.
Don't forget, Panthers always:
Practice Safety
Act Responsibly
Work Hard
Show Respect
Go Panthers! #PawsUp
Sincerely,
Dr. Melissa Laudani
Principal, Lawton Chiles MS

If you are picking up your child in the car line, you are to stay in the car line and pick them up on the ramp - pulling forward as far as you can before stopping to let them in. Students will not be allowed to walk into the parking lot to get into your car.
Some clubs have not yet started. Please see the chart below for more information.
Don't forget: The Google form MUST be completed by parents/guardians BEFORE a student can attend a club meeting.
Step 1 - Click the link below to view the list of clubs.
Step 2 - Parents must click the link for the Permission Form and give permission for their student to attend. Take a note of the date and time. These forms will be added closer to the start of the school year.
Step 3 - Students then attend the club meetings and have fun! Any student who shows up for a meeting without the parent permission will not be allowed to stay.
***Club listing is a live document. Check back for updates.
FAST Progress Monitoring 1 will be given the week of 9/3-9/6. Please see the letter and flyer below for more information.
SCPS Families received information from our Department of School Safety & Security which shared updates due to new legislation regarding doors and gates that will require some procedural changes. Our district has already had many of these safety procedures in place for years, however, there are a few changes that you can expect to see this year to maintain the highest level of safety and security and comply with new legislation. These measures will extend to any time a student is on campus.
Impacts at Lawton Chiles Middle School
Drop-off/pick-up: Doors will open on the car ramp and the bus ramp at 9 am. Please do not drop off your child before that time. Staff members will be stationed at both points so that students can enter the school. Please do not drop off or pick up students anywhere other than the front car ramp. See the pictures below for specifics.
Access to Campus: ONLY authorized individuals will be granted access through staffed entry points. Students will be given lanyards for their ID cards and should always wear them. These cards will be used to gain access to buildings on campus. If you are visiting the front office, please ring the doorbell and wait. You will be asked to explain the purpose of your visit before the door is opened.
Events and Activities: Specific entry points will be designated and staffed for events outside regular hours. If a student is participating in a club or sport, that sponsor or coach will meet the students in the courtyard in front of their building and will escort them to their classroom/practice location.
These changes are not only important for remaining in compliance with Florida law but ensuring a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors. We would like to ask for your patience and cooperation during this transition.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out via email at school_safety@scps.k12.fl.us. Our school is committed to the safety of our students and staff, and we appreciate the role you play in helping us work together to create a safe and vibrant campus for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.

Information Letter for Name Deviation and Code of Conduct Consent - ENGLISH
