Writer's Workshop - Veterans Day Lesson 8
Today, you will type a rough draft of your introduction for your Veterans Day essay.
These are the things that should be in your introduction:
A hook. Something to grab the reader and make them want to continue to read. Some examples are: a question, a quote, or a surprising fact.
The three supporting details you will be discussing in your body paragraphs.
A thesis. The main idea of your essay. Some examples are: On Veterans Day, we should take the time to honor veterans and the sacrifices they make. or Veterans make important sacrifices for our country and should be honored.
Remember to follow the directions below that we discussed in lesson 1. Continue on your Google Doc that you called Honoring All Who Served.
a) Topic: Honoring All Who Served
b) Typed using Google Docs
c) 5 paragraph essay
d) Times New Roman
e) 12 point
f) Double spaced
g) Use the rubric to make sure you included everything.
h) No name on essay
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
