Lesson 1 - Can You Guess My Costume
We will be doing a fun Halloween activity. You will have four days to complete it. On the fifth day we will share.
Read the example. Can you guess what I am going to be for Halloween?
Did you notice how each paragraph went from Vague to more specific?
The first paragraph is an introduction that includes general clues. The reader should be able to automatically guess your costume after reading just the first paragraph. There should be a lot of possible guess that fit your clues.
The second paragraph will include more specific clues. This should help the reader narrow down the possible ideas or give them new ideas, but it should not allow them to 100% get it right.
The third paragraph paragraph will include very specific clues. At this point the reader might be able to narrow it down a pick what you are describing.
The last paragraph will include the giveaway clues and a creative ending. If the reader still doesn't know. This paragraph should pretty much give it away. The reader should definitely be able to figure it out.
HERE IS WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO TODAY:
You are going to think of five possible Halloween costumes that you can write about. You will then give one very general detail, and one very specific detail for each of the five costumes. Use the Guess My Costume Ideas Google Doc to complete this. There is an example to help you.
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
