Nonfiction Text Structures
Lesson 1 - Narrative vs. Expository vs. Hybrid
Today I want to show you that nonfiction text can be structured in different ways and that you will need to read differently for each type.
As we begin our nonfiction unit, it is important to note there are different kinds of nonfiction texts.
Some nonfiction texts are narrative nonfiction and follow a story line, much like fiction texts.
Other nonfiction texts are expository and are structured more as "All About" books (text book), which relay facts about a topic.
There are other nonfiction texts that are a hybrid, or mixture, of these two in that they have qualities of a story, but also give facts about a particular topic.
We are going to look at the different types of nonfiction texts and decide if they are narrative nonfiction, expository nonfiction or a combination of both (hybrid).

You can read for the remainder of the time. For this unit you must be reading nonfiction. If you do not have a physical nonfiction book go to www.getepic.com/students and enter our class code: bzr3899. Select your name and go to your mailbox located near the top right. I have placed 40+ nonfiction books for you to read there in the three different categories.
