Test Your Claims
Writing Workshop - Literary Essay Lesson 6
Writing Workshop - Literary Essay Lesson 6
Today, we are going to test our claims, select one, and fill out the essay pillar to organize our thoughts. You will have time to work on your essay pillar during our next writing time, so you do not have to finish your pillar today.
Use the steps to tests the claims you have made:
Is the claim connected to the lesson or themes within the stories?
Does the claim apply to more than one part of the texts?
Is there enough evidence from the texts to support it?
Select the claim you are going to use for your essay. Finalize at two characters you are going to use, and decide on the theme you are going to focus on. Fill out the Essay Pillar Doc using your Comparing Characters Doc and the mentor texts. Remember this is an outline you should not be writing paragraphs. Remember to make a copy and save it in your writing folder.
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
