Sometimes, the reading in our science and social studies books can be difficult to understand. Imagine how hard it would be to have to take a science quiz if you can barely understand what's in your textbook. How can you work with text that is really hard to read and understand?
The language in the article we are going to look at becomes particularly dense, but it is full of important information. When text is too hard for a reader, the information is in danger of being skipped. This is where we can use close reading for text evidence to help clarify understanding.
