Today, we are going to continue crafting our stories by building suspense, it gets even worse when...
Let's look at page 9. Notice how the author shows the passage of time by saying, "The next morning...". This tells the reader the story is moving forward and the scene is changing.
The author also does more. She shows how the problem got worse. Even though everything was cleaned up (physically), the (emotional) mess inside the father was still there, so even though the problem has concluded, it still gets worse for the main character.
Let's reread pages 10 and 11. Notice there is more passage of time. We see that the action continues, but rather than getting better, the problem is getting worse as time moves on.
Use the Fourth section of your theme based organizer and section five of your story diamond to continue your story by making the problem get worse. You are only writing "the end (almost)" today. If you finish, try different ways to make the problem get worse.
Remember to:
use action
use description
use dialogue
link your problem to the theme
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
