Waiting Room Zoo
by Susan Noyes Anderson
I'm in the doctor's waiting room.
My mom is counting sheep.
The music they play here could put
an elephant to sleep.
They've wallpapered with animals.
This place looks like the zoo!
Do they think they can fool kids with
a kangaroo or two?
A doctor is a doctor, right?
A shot is still a shot.
And I don't care how many kinds
of animals they've got.
The nurse speaks baby talk to me.
(She thinks I'm half my age.)
You'd think I was a lion being
coaxed into my cage.
"Doctor is ready now," she coos.
"Come in, lamb, you'll be fine."
(Yeah, sure. And that's a needle from a friendly porcupine!)
Advice to Rapunzel
by Eileen Spinelli
Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Rapunzel beware.
Be cautious and wise
when you let down your hair.
Who is this Prince Charming
who claims to be true?
Who claims to be caring for
nothing but you?
Be sure you're not blinded
by his gold and crown
before you go letting
your lovely hair down.
Is this prince a kind boy
who rides down the road?
Or is he a cad with
the heart of a toad?
Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Rapunzel beware.
Be cautious and wise
when you let down your hair.
Use the Google Doc to analysis a narrative poem. Remember to make a copy and save it in your writing folder.
Use your Google Doc to write a narrative poem. Write it in the box provided. You may use color and add a picture. You MUST include a simile and a personification in your poem. You will keep one poem per page, so your narrative poem will start on page 11, and all your poems will be written on the same Google Doc that you already saved in your drive. I Recommend you first write your poem on paper and work on it. When you are happy with it, you can add it to the Doc.
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
